Q: MacBook Pro update to Yosemite breaks Magic Mouse

Installed Yosemite today. Magic Mouse instantly broken. It does connect sometimes, but the tracking is sluggish and gestures don't work at all. Worked fine in Mavericks. Batteries @80%.

Re-pairing does NOT work for me. zaping PRAM does NOT work for me.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)

2.7 GHz Intel Core i7

16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB

Is there a solution, patch? How can this be so terribly broken?

    Same issues here ...

2012 13 Retina have two different magic mice and both have connection issues since updating to 10.10, tried resets, restarts and battery changing. It occurs with two separate mice so I highly doubt it is a hardware issue and more so a software problem with 10.10

This really seems to be a problem with the bluetooth itself since my other bluetooth hardware has connection problems as well.

How does Apple release software like this?

Why am I paying a premium for their products only to have them not even work????

try to upgrading 10.10.1, seems to have resolved the issue as it is not as prevalent as it was previously

Im having similar issues since updating to Yosemite.  Magic Mouse just loses connection out of nowhere... seems to be bluetooth related more than just specifically Magic Mouse related.

It will just drop the connection sometimes.... if I move the mouse around and wait a few seconds it will usually connect again.... but this is really annoying and has only started with Yosemite.

I have the latest updates also... no change.... keeps happening.

my wireless magic mouse wouldn't connect after having had my computer shut off for two weeks (normally, it's just sleeping). i tried a number of solutions with nothing fixing the problem. what finally worked was turning off the 2.4ghz mode in the the wireless router. i read that 2.4 can interfere with bluetooth, now i am just using the 5ghz channel on the router and everything is working great.

just throwing it out there as another thing to try.

This is an old bug. It appeared for me on Maverick. I report it 18 months ago. Still open, so this is the way of Apple to say "go * yourself, we don't care".

The solution that worked for me was to do the following...

    1)  Turn off wifi

    2)  Reconnect Magic Mouse

    3)  Turn on wifi again

Mouse was working fine for a few days with Yosemite (just upgraded). Mouse didn't work this morning. Turned off WiFi, mouse connected, turned WiFi back on and so far mouse is ok.

THANK YOU! I just downloaded yosemite and had the same problem.  Thought I'd try your solution first since it was easiest.... It worked! Do you know if this means that anytime the hard drive is mounted that the mouse will not work?

    Thanks!

To everyone out there still having problems, un-plugging my time machine hard drive (like was mentioned above by Gus) fixed it for me.  There seems to be a lot of fixes for this issue which is good but also concerning...

Magic mouse connects right away after turning off wifi.  This is annoying.
