Q: Can't write data on DVDs

Can't write data on a DVD. The message "The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." appears and the blank DVD is ejected. I'm using a late 2008 MacBook Pro. Is this an unresolved bug?

    Hello Jorge,

The steps detailed below can help resolve this error and restore your ability to successfully burn DVDs.

    1. Open the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder, and open the application called Console. You can look for more information about any error that occurs when you burn discs in the console.log file.
    2. Make sure that the disc you are burning is clean (wipe it with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth).
    3. Do not move, bump, or shake the computer while a disc is being burned.
    4. Use blank discs that are rated for the burn speed of your drive, or consider trying a different brand of disc.
    5. Specify a burn speed that is lower than the maximum speed rating for your optical drive.
    6. Quit all open applications that you are not using.
    7. Restart your computer and try burning the disc again.
