Option-V used to create the square root symbol. That's not working for me any more.
Now Option-V pauses, allowing me to accent the next character with a ˇ
Any ideas what keyboard combination will create the square root symbol - √ ?

Ahhhh … that was it. I was using the U.S. Extended Input Source. I had to add the regular old U.S. Source, but when I did the √ was back.

Thanks for the reply. I know I can insert the square root symbol using the Character Viewer. I am wondering if there is still a keyboard shortcut that will do the trick.
I haven't seen a shortcut like that now.
What keyboard layout are you using? Different layouts have different shortcuts.
I am using a MacBook Pro and an external Apple Extended Keyboard.

The US keyboard layout still gives me a square root symbol.
Maybe try alt + v for the shortcut?
You can also use Keyboard viewer to see what keys will create the special characters. hold down, alt, ctrl, etc & watch the on screen keyboard update.
