    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

    Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

I have same problem with late 2009 imac 27" i5.

Surfing,  skype and a youtube-video. And it shutsdown due to overheating.

And I don't hear the fans as much as earlier. (It's till moving though)

I'd like my fans to start a lot earlier.

I went through the reinstall process of the prior OS last night unfortunately I was able to download the additional component yet for some reason it won't install. I have appointment Apple support appointment this morning. I'll results of the appointment here. Even just running the utility tool the computer is running hoter then normal. I really think it's a yosemite challenge.

After several SMC resets and 24 hours...... during that time I had restarted a few times plus left it on all night......  now it's seems to be normal again......

    go figure....

maybe it was busy indexing or something.....

    seems to be ok today....

Just back from the Apple store (Fashion Valley San Diego). The verdict is "we have no idea whats wrong". Bummer really. They checked my computer in and plan to call me back with the finial verdict soon.

At first they thought they could erase my hard drive and reinstall Mavrick... After the drive was erased the OS would not install. Same problem I was having last night yet the Apple guys had a back way in.

    I will report back outcome.

I am running MBA with same config. Following suggestion from tomme86 I had  a look at Activity Monitor where I found Google Drive consuming 95% of the CPU. I switched it off and peace has returned.

I had the same observation that Google Drive was consuming significant cycles of CPU. System restart fixed this for me and I did not have switch it off.

I have the same setup. For me it was Safari overheating. I'll stick to Chrome until there is a fix for it.

Yesterday Apple called me back (time to pick up your computer) with the good news! My computer is perfectly fine yet they recommend NOT installing Yosemite for a few months to determine if I have a hardware problem (All tests ran said my hardware was fine) OR if its a Yosemite challenge. Currently Im running Maverick (2 days) with not heat up issues or fan running like crazy.

Late 2013 rMBP. Light overheating. Temp Gauge is averaging 145ºF with menial tasks. Doing the iWork updates now and going to throw a good Ableton set on and see what temps I get then. Hoping for the best. Unrelated, but I'm really let down with the GUI.
