Not with iTunes 12, it's been completely removed, we are now stuck with the full-screen view
Just press Playlist button and sidebar will appear

Yes, but it is not accessible from the View menu. Go to the row with "My Music" "Playlists" "Match" etc, and click on "Playlists."
Well i guess hitting the playlist button kinda works like the old bar but its not the same. I hate when they take something that works only to get used to how they want us to use it. We should have the option to chose!! thanks everyone!
Without the sidebar, anything I do requires an extra click. Dumb move Apple.
more and more stupid clicks than ever in iTunes..... who made this design? it's a big fall back
I Do not understand guys,
On the main page, up in the center, you have to use the "playlist" option.
Side bar will appear, than on top right you can choose the view: album, artist etc.
Once is done it will remain like that, no more click, just use it.
Marshawhite - It's not that the sidebar can't be used, it's more of an ergonomics thing. As an IT professional and user I can tell you that one of the things people complain most about are inefficiencies. One of the easiest things to do to fix that is economizing clicks and consolidating menus. With the advent of iTunes 12, for every media type, you have a separate sidebar (also, it doesn't appear you can use the sidebar with audiobooks, apps, ringtones or radio at all). Having a singular sidebar option created efficiencies and reduced clicks. It's why all your important driving gauges and notifications are on the instrument panel of your car and why they've moved volume control, etc. to steering wheels. Consolidating and centralizing makes things easier. Having to hunt and search and for what you need is cumbersome. This is good news for iTunes competitors, however. Now that the bar's been lowered (no pun intended), we might soon find something better on the horizon from someone else.
There's my problem with Mac; they've gone from the counter-culture to the dictator - they dictate what customers want. That was Jobs' arrogant outlook before he passed and has been adopted as the culture of the company. That way Mac is the becoming the platform for old people and the simpletons that need to be lead like sheep. I have Macs at home (wife and kids) but use Droid phones... I like to decide what and how I use things.

Exactly why I avoid "upgrading" as long as possible - just a few days ago in this case.
Can anybody explain this, seriously, maybe I just don't see it yet. How is this an "enhancement" and more efficient to NOT have the sidebar?
They "train" us to get used to one way, then eliminate it. Make your bug and security fixes, but why mess with the UI!
