iPod update Version 1/2

I recently updated my iPod 60 GB with version 1.2 and now the screen has lines, the iPod locks up, and I am having difficulty syncing. I am currently restoring and it seems to be progressing, but there are still lines on the screen; graphic garbage. Any suggestions?

Holly sheep dip, I tried to update my ipod with v1.2 and it gooned my little critter to heck and back. After trying a bunch of stuff I used Windows "My Computer" to do a quick format of the E:\ drive (what my system sees it as) and I was able to iPod updater to go back to 1.1.2. I had to reload all my music and photos but it was better than waiting to send it back. If any one is having the same problem drop me a line, maybe I can help. (barnettbill@hotmail.com)

I spent an unpleasant several hours trying to get my 30G (5th gen) iPod working properly with my Honda Accord Music Link after updating to version 1.2 of the firmware. The iPod was not recognized by the Music Link (this is a known issue, unfortunately I didn't know about it until I had updated). My PC runs WinXP and I had the same problems that others had trying to get back to version 1.12 of the firmware, since iTunes 7 wouldn't allow me to do it. I finally did a Windows System Restore to a point prior to the iTunes/iPod firmware upgrade. This got me back to iTunes 6.0.5, but my iPod was still at 1.2. But at least iTunes 6.0.5 allowed me to run the 1.12 firmware. Then I re-installed iTunes 7, so I could access my libraries (it changed all my libraries, even the old ones, so that iTunes 6 couldn't read them). I had to fool around with various versions of QuickTime during all of this, too. I love my iPod and have been impressed with the Macs I've seen lately, but the difficulties that I had simply restoring my iPod to where it was before the upgrade felt more like a Windows experience than an Apple experience. I've noticed that Mac users have also had troubles with the iTunes/iPod update. The worst part was that there was absolutely nothing anywhere on Apple's website to help me through the process, and I have already passed my 90 days of phone support. There's no excuse for that. I can accept that they issued software with some bugs, that happens to everyone, but even Microsoft issues workarounds as soon as they know there's a problem. In case anyone doubts that this is a widespread problem (or that Apple is aware of it), check out the "Popular Downloads" on Apple's support site, and you'll see that iTunes version 6.0.5 and iPod updater 2006-06-28 (version 1.12) are at the top of the list, with the new version of iTunes coming in 3rd. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that a lot of iPod owners are reverting to the older software.

This is what I finally came to...Remove all Apple software; iTunes, all of the Updaters and the Apple software update program, and Quicktime. Reboot. Use the CD that came with the iPod to reload version 1.1.1 and iTunes 6.whatever. Reboot again. Attach the iPod and the PC will recognize a new USB device. Reboot again. Install version 1.1.2 and update the iPod. Reboot again. Intall iTunes version 7. Attach the iPod. DO NOT LET IT LOAD THE 1.2 UPDATE. Synchronize. Slow, but working. Don't mess with it, especially the photos. iTunes shut down in the middle of the synchronization and when I did that, it left unusable space. I had to start all over. I am reloading my iPod as I write this. What a hassle. Hope that it all works and the files play.
