Full screen mode Yosemite

if its what i think you are after click on view at the top left of screen and its at the bottom of the drop down menu

It's the green "traffic light" button at the top left of the window. Click to go to full screen; to revert to windowed, move the mouse cursor to the top of the screen. The menu bar drops down and click the green light again. If you look *really* closely at the green button, you can see a zoom icon

On the toolbar on the top of the screen for most applications click on: view - enter full screen (Also the shortcut is Control+Command+F). But for some application it may be in a different area of the toolbar. I hope this helps 🙂

I have the opposite problem. I can make an app such as Firefox go to full-screen by clicking the green button in the upper left corner of the Firefox window. But it's hard to leave full-screen.

As best I can tell, the only way to do so is to move the cursor up to the very top edge of the screen until the drop-down menus appear, including the stoplight buttons in the far left. Then, click on the green one.

I'm sure I'll get the hang of it, but it seems unnecessarily hard.

Yes, press the Esc key.

That doesn't work on my 2012 Macbook Air, but thanks for your reply.

Does pressing the Esc key work for everyone else to get out of full-screen mode in Yosemite? Knowing this will help me pinpoint my problem (e.g., a broken Esc key).

Just to note: The Esc key thing has worked in all OS X versions since the introduction of Full Screen in Lion. It's not something that started with Yosemite.

Yep. That's why I'm so surprised it doesn't work in Yosemite, and I'm wondering if others who've installed Yosemite are experiencing the same.

Agree! This is awful! I use a Mac for work so it is killing me having to scroll the mouse to the top screen wait for the menu to appear select exit full screen. The entire program then disappears. I have to to program icon on the bottom then double click and select the file i was using, then go back to the menu bar and select full screen. I want the old green button back!

I have a brand new mac book pro and it doesn't work for me either. This is awful!

In Finder & Safari & Chrome control-command-F works fine to get into or out of full screen. In Chrome there is also a 'presentation mode' which requires shift-command-F.

Gratitude. I'm posting my diatribe on this feature anyway, here and somewhere where Apple will see it:

Yosemite program: The brilliant change making windows open to full screen with no ability to manipulate by command; e.g., to minimize; switch windows. Seems only fix is to laboriously move mouse/track to tiny green traffic light and press “option” to make navigable. Dumb dumb dumb. And the point of this brilliant innovation is ???

So I'm glad there is a command available to quickly customize to my needs consistent with my workflow for the previous 8 iterations of OS X. Curious to know if it took a lot of time for you to find this solution or if you have a resource applicable to other such problems which you might be willing to share, please?
