Jan 27, 2015 5:55 AM in response to Oldconnaughtby faizal vaid,I had the same issue I gave Apple support a call and they told me:
1. Close all running apps
2. Shutdown your mac
3. Turn on your Mac, press and hold the following for around 4 - 5 seconds ctrl, cmd, P and R wait for the start up tune to play twice.
After doing that it worked for me.
Thanks Michael!

Jun 7, 2015 7:50 AM in response to Oldconnaughtby martinsfl,After spending a whole Saturday troubleshooting this dog, I finally (and accidentally) fixed it for my MBP Retina with Yosemite 10.10.3. Noted, I tried all sorts of common recommendations - reset SMC, sudo killall VDCAssistant, etc...
Here is the fix - I completely drained its battery last night, and today when I plugged it on AC, the camera was working with all apps - facetime, skype, photo booth... Voilá!!!
Good luck to all!
