Q: sleep wake problem with Yosemite on my Mac Mini Mid 2012

WORKAROUND FOUND!

I have a mid-2010 mini that is hooked up to a plasma display via HDMI and has had this black display after being unattended problem. I had had Energy Saver set to NEVER sleep and had the Computer Name screensaver. i also had the DISPLAY set to NEVER sleep.
But, when I hit the space bar to to wake from screensaver I had a black screen.
WORKAROUND THAT I FOUND was to schedule automated restart of the system, daily at 5:00 am. Since then I have been finding my desktop instead of a black screen! :-)

I'm sick of this problem since I upgraded to Yosemite! This is such a waste of time and hassle, and I risk losing work every time I walk away from my computer if I don't shut it down first, which is ridiculous to do. Every time my computer sleeps, when I wake it up, the mouse will track, but everything is frozen and I have to force my computer to turn off. The wait for it to reboot.

FIX THIS PROBLEM APPLE!!!!!!

Have an extra week or two of patience.  Apple already appears to have fixed this. I've run 10.10.1 beta1 for the past few days with speakers plugged in. No frozen login screens in the AM or after prolonged deep sleep.

This problem is not specific to Mac Mini hardware. I have this issue with a brand new iMac. I am not using headphones or USB peripherals. Does anybody else see this in their logs:

requested push wake but lacks APSPushWakeEntitlement

When I try to search for it, it comes up blank with a partial typing of the term. Don't recall it from months ago when I first had trouble with it. Should not that my logs got wiped two weeks ago, when I had a directory structure crash and unbootable system. Now I'm on 10.10.1 beta1 without wake from sleep trouble.

Apple is aware and is present looking into it.

Apple is aware and is looking into this.  A few beta testers have confirmed that it is a bug that is fixed in 10.10.1 beta.

In the mean time: turn off sleep, unplug the sound when not in use, or use a third party usb sound device If you you happen to have one laying around.

The thread is long so ease like this comment so that others are drawn to this post.

I too, have been experiencing the same problem on my Mac Mini 2013. However, I have noticed it happens when I have iTunes and Safari open. These are the programs I use most on this computer. Leave and the computer goes to sleep and it crashes upon waking up. I also did a reinstall but that did not solve the problem. When I close all applications the crashing does not happen as often, but still happens. I have never had the patience to wait 5 minutes for a reboot and  do a shutdown manually. Aside from installing Yosemite there has been no change in the way the computer is used. I have started shutting down the computer at night just so I don't have to face a frozen screen in the morning. Additionally, I have a MacBook Pro mid-2013 that has had similar problems with crashing. This is my production computer and run more than just iTunes and Safari. I shutdown this computer as well at night to avoid the problems with crashes.

I was in at the beginning of this discussion and don't really feel the need to have to add more than it's already been said, but I just wanted to the share my latest experience with the freeze/sleep problem, because I'm not sure anyone else mentioned it.

I haven't been plugging my speakers in just to avoid the freezing in case I forgot to unplug them and of course that's what I did earlier tonight, I left the speakers plugged and the computer went to sleep and the screen freeze (except the mouse) happened, but the only difference this time was that I unplugged the speakers and rather than re-booting I left my computer on and went out for a few hours.

I'm now back and I noticed that the computer re-started itself and it had one of those screens where the problem was captured and reported automatically to Apple. Of course it had reams of registry-like system files which I didn't bother to even look through. At the top of the problem log it had described the problem as seep-wake failure, so at least looks like the system was able to recognize the problem and send the report to Apple

I have the same problem on a Mac Mini 2014. It's about 2 weeks old and I have trouble starting it. Often the Mac starts but nothing shows on the screen. I have an issue lately where it has started and a box comes up asking if I've forgotten my password etc. Here I'm able to move my Track Pad cursor but not click on anything, but if I plug in a mouse I can. the odd thing is when the machine is up and running the Track Pad works fine.

When the Mac is in sleep mode I can not get it to start and have to restart it again. If this carries on they can have it back.

I've paid a fortune for this, it's the top of the range with everything at its max and yet it's problematic.

I've contacted Apple and they got me to reset the PRM, but this didn't really do anything as the sleep problem has occurred since this reset. Copping out I think.

In my case, any audio cabling other than HDMI isn't connected.

Mac Mini, started freezing after "upgrading" to Yosemite. Display via HDMI; only wireless keyboard and magic mouse are attached to the computer. Network via Wifi. Freezes every time after sleep; cursor moves but can't do anything.

Cold boot / power cycle via power button solves the issue temporarily, albeit on each reboot the keymap gets lost and is changed to American English (should be Finnish). Annoying.

Fixing it by reverting to Mavericks from Time Machine backup.

Got the same KEBOARD problems... Boots in US AMERICAN while I keep selecting ITALIAN.

Also it has problems in boot with external USB devices.. If you have a long chain of equipment it may stall booting.

HI i have same problem sleep wake issue even bought Apple keyboard ,wireless mouse not Apple but when computer is asleep ,wake with Apple wired keyboard which is fine however cannot use mouse cursor does move on screen but cannot select any thing ,Mac Mini OS X 10.10 Yosemite late 2012 though only bought less than month ,used Apple support Chat groan ,after many info exchanges Apple are contacting me HOORAY I know ,the only way I can shutdown Mac Mini is with power switch which won't do it much good will it ,so will keep you all informed ,Dave

After much research and reading this entire thread, the audio out (headphones) was the exact culprit for me.  When unplugged, no freezing, when plugged, freezing occurs.  I changed my video connection from HDMI to DVI, no freezing after sleep.  Problem is, I bought a good monitor that works well with HDMI, not so clear with DVI and issues with "fuzzy" highlighted pointer/cursor. 

Here's hoping Apple researches this device issue and provides an update soon.  For now, I'm back to HDMI and plugging/unplugging headphone jack into Mini as needed.

Hi DaPhid ,I paid for Acer monitor quite expensive ,my Mac mini has same problem ,tried the headphone socket removal no difference ,Apple are actually ringing me ! Yes I know ,have read all of posts from users ,tried Apples chat portal **** I even phoned Lord knows how much that will cost me 15 minuets on hold and no answer ,some of the posts I have read back date to 2013 ,so I consider its about time the problem was and is sorted out ,Dave
