Q: iTunes 12 cannot update album artwork

I have always been able to manually add artwork to my music and home videos, but I just updated to the new OS X Yosemite, and every time I try to manually add artwork...it acts like it is going to add, then it just disappears and doesn't come back.  Is this a bug or is there a new way to add album artwork?

Exact same issue here as well. Just like the original poster, I proceed to add the artwork to the video (Home or Movie) and it appears that iTunes tries to do so but then the artwork does not get attached.

I was able to add movie artwork by adding one image to multiple files at the same time. However after doing that I can't change the files that now have the wrong artwork.

I've been able to add artwork by adding a duplicate or dummy movie file and naming something that will show up last in my library (900 zz). I then select that movie file in the library and also select the movie which artwork i want to change/add and do command I to bring up the info panel, click artwork and add my artwork there to both movies. I then just delete my dummy movie when I'm finished. wonky work around but its working for me.

I'm experiencing the same problem with iTunes 12 too - I am unable to add artwork for some files. I tried the workaround suggested by jorgen7, but it doesn't work in my case. Anybody else got a workaround to share? Or anyone knows how I can roll back to iTunes 11 without affecting the rest of my system? Thanks.

I would also like to know how to roll back to iTunes 11 if anyone knows  iTunes 12 is garbage.  I can't even sort TV shows by Show Name and Season # anymore.  Please help me roll back on my MacBook Pro.

I also went back to iTunes 11.   Just restore from your backup, or use Time Machine.

Tell Apple what you think of iTunes 12.   Be nice.

I have already sent feddback and I don't have Time Machine setup.  I have too many files for it to backup.

    Hi Everyone New poster here.

I too have this issue after updating to Yosemite, I have found though that this problem only happens when my library is on my nas box. If I move my library back to my mac then I can add artwork as normal.

Any ideas? Where are your guys iTunes stored?

Actually, after further trial-and-error experimentation, I found that jorgen7's (thanks!) workaround of adding artwork to multiple files at the same time does work! The irritating bit is that these files must be sequential, which is ok for a TV series, but a chore for a standalone movie, necessitating the creation of a dummy file just to achieve a sequence. In addition, cutting or copying the artwork has become more tedious. I now need to drag the artwork from the iTunes dialog box on to a program, like PowerPoint, then save it as a picture, and then add it back as the artwork to the iTunes dialog box. Note that you need not go to the Artwork tab, and instead can add the artwork by double clicking on the poster icon and inserting the artwork from wherever you had stored it. By the way, I noticed the inserted artwork sometimes wraps itself around by a tiny sliver, that is around 2% of the right-hand vertical edge of the artwork appends itself to the left-hand vertical edge!

And yes, I am using a NAS configuration. Along with the problem of the process of updating apps causing iTunes to crash, it seems that the folks at Apple have assumed in their latest coding that no one uses a NAS configuration, which is increasingly untrue. While mapping the NAS may solve this problem, it is frustrating that each update of iTunes/iOS is giving users less and less flexibility, which is ironic as Apple keeps claiming that each upgrade gives users more choices!

I'm chiming in here to say that I'm having the same issues. I was looking for an answer to the artwork problem. I'm running iTunes 12.0.1 on a Win 7 platform, but am having the same issues with the artwork. I was able to add music to my Library that I have been running over several versions of iTunes. I updated iTunes in anticipation of my new iPhone 6, big mistake. Should have stayed with what was working for me. I have been able to add music to my Library just fine. But when I go to add cover art, it acts like it's taking it, but nothing happens. I can work with existing albums, music and cover art just fine. It's seems to only be New stuff I have issues with. I took a suggestion form earlier in this post, with a twist. I had deleted several duplicate song files earlier as I was working with my iTunes. I went to the trash and Recovered one of them. I then changed the Info for this song to reflect a new album I had just added, making it the last song in the group. This old reclaimed song will take and hold the album art work and give the rest the cover art. But none of the rest of the new songs will take or hold this cover art. At least for now I can have the artwork for my new albums show until Apple can get off their Butts and put out a version that works.

I mapped the drive to my NAS, rebooted.

Then I looked at the info on the movie I had added. The artwork showed up. I clicked OK and it was all fixed.

Same problem.  I added a CD to My Music and album shows a musical note...iTunes can't find the album artwork.

    Solution:

    go to www.allmusic.com

in search box type info for album - name of album, composer, conductor, etc.

once image is found, control click image to save. I save as .jpg on desktop.

    Return to iTunes 12

    select album containing musical note,

    control click > get info

    edit items

    select artwork

click add artwork select your image

    click open

    click ok...after a few seconds

The album cover artwork is added!

Follow the same procedure to replace wrong artwork automatically added.  No need to first delete the incorrect artwork.

It will be replaced with the one you select.
