iTunes 12 cannot update album artwork

I solved my problem (had the same issue as everybody else in here) with Apple support. Simply rightclick on the Itunes icon and then choose "Run program as administrator", once starting it like that everything works.

I just tried this and it did not work. I was still not able to change anything in the Get Info tab, including artwork or genre. I have tried every single workaround in this discussion to no avail. Working on a Windows 8 and hating iTunes 12 already. Have had it for only a day.

Sorry to hear that. Wish I could help, but I'm on a MacBook Pro with iTunes12.maybe some of our Windows friends have found something that works.

I'm running iTunes 12 on Win 7 and have been having this same problem. I add a video into iTunes and it won't let me edit any of the information. Not sorting wise and not album cover. On a whim I decided to pull up the actual file in Windows Explorer. Turns out that the file was read only. Apparently all the files I tried to edit were read only. Hopefully this helps anyone else having this issue. Thankfully I can add my artwork cover back in!

I have found a workaround for this in iTunes 12

Hold the option key and then select 'Get info' on the file you want to add artwork too and it will open up the old iTunes 11 grey info box (see below).

Select artwork at the end and then drag artwork accross from finder.

It takes a while to update so be patient but it definitely works for me.

Apple seem to forget that I own my computer. The software and the music I have put on it.

All updates should not trespass and alter the music files or their workability with out my agreement so no secretive changes should be put on my machine

Lose the Arrogance Apple it is not yours to alter anything on my property, it is mine, keep off until you get it right and fully inform people of the effects that your update may do to their computers

Ps you come under British law even if you think you don't, disclaimers very rarely supported. Our Judges like to and can make their own minds up.

To put out an "update" that changes the looks and basic workability without informing the purchaser may be ilegal

I have Yosemite and I get as far as the old dialogue box, but when I want to go to Previous or Next iTunes closes and said it was shut down. It has a reopen tab to open iTunes again, but for some reason it closes iTunes after I start trying to move around the artwork. Is there something I'm doing wrong as I am able to get into the old dialogue box and go through the columns "Sorting", Artwork, etc, but just trying to move them shuts the program down.

This works for me. Windows 8.1, iTunes 12. I had to browse in file explorer to the specific folder containing the album linked to iTunes, right click and go to properties and deselect the 'Read Only' attribute and apply. After doing this, in iTunes Get Info worked to manually update the cover art.

Hope this saves some Windows users some frustration 🙂

I keep all my son's movies in the TV show section so he doesn't have to search through multiple screens. My artwork wasn't displaying so I resized the pictures in paint to 170x170 to match the TV show artwork and it finally displayed. It makes it look a little ugly but it works. Really wish it would get fixed so I didn't have to do that each time though.

OK! So I tried every solution in this thread and others and NOTHING worked. I just figured it out. I had to convert the album I wanted to update into .mp3.

Apparently it wasn't in that format for some reason. I followed these instructions: iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support

Once I converted the music, I selected all the music in the album, right-click > Get Info > Artwork > selected artwork AND IT FINALLY WORKS!

I've been struggling with this since forever and I don't understand why it's such a process. Anyway hope this helps someone!
