Why does my mid-2011 Macbook Air not support Air Drop/Continuity/Handoff? It has Bluetooth 4.0, which is what I thought was the main requirement for getting these devices to work together. I also have an iPhone 6 Plus and a 4th gen iPad.

Dark green shows the officially supported devices. Older Mac can use some tricky solution like the OS X continuity Activation Tool ( Not recommended ).
My mid 2011 iMac is having the same issue with my iPads. The iMac cannot see the iPads. Help.
In System Information → Hardware → Bluetooth, what does it say next to LMP Version?
LMP Version: 0x6.

Unfortunately, only 2012 Macs or newer can use Handoff and Continuity. I, having a 2011 Macbook Air myself, was quite saddened by this. Oh well. Here's the compatibility sheet for OS X Yosemite: Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity
If you check your "System Information", it will tell you if Handoff is supported:
Click on > About This Mac > System Report...
Under Hardware, click Bluetooth and check the "Handoff Supported" line
I'm particularly disappointed this feature isn't working, as I'm sure initial reports said that Bluetooth 4.0 and 0x6 LMP were the requirements, both of which are present in the mid-2011 machines, like my MBA. I'm also having problems with the Bluetooth in my car having upgraded to iPhone 6 & iOS 8, but I'm hoping the 8.1 update will fix that

already installed and tested on my Air Mid 2011 !!!

easy to use app, there is also a very complicated script, but i like the app.

Please tell us what App your using! Got an mid-2011 iMac, iPhone 6 , and iPad PRO. Would Love to be able to use AirDrop between all units.. My iMac still works fine, so why buy a new one only to be able to use AirDrop.. Naah.
