My MacBook is stuck on "FileVault Disk Encryption"

Hello,

So yesterday I decided to upgrade to Yosemite on my 2013 13' MacBook pro 500gb 2.5GHz. And everything went well except when it got to the screen for filevault. Before i got to the filevault stage, everything went well and the computer successfully instaled Yosemite and rebooted. I logged into my icloud when it asked me to, then it went to the screen of the terms of conditions, and I agreed to it. But then it went to the FileVault stage, and I knew a little bit about what it was --to encrypt your data(whole hard drive)-- but I went with it and clicked enable Filevault. So after 30 minutes, it was still the same screen, and I checked afree 3 hours, and the sceeen was still the same. Now, after 15 hours, the screen is still the same. There isn't really anything on the Computer except for Microsoft office applications, and a few word documents. So nothing more than ~110gb of data used. What should I do? Should I turn my computer off?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10), Just upgraded.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It makes no changes to your data.

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

{ diskutil list; echo; diskutil cs list; } | pbcopy

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.

Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered.

The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.

The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.

i have had a similar issue...FileVault stuck after upgrading to OS X Yosemite.

here is a simple solution.

- Shut down your macbook

- Hold cmd+R on the keyboard and turn on the laptop (Keep the keys held down)

- Click on 'Utilities' or 'Disk utilities'

- In the left column you should see Macintosh HD and underneath again Macintosh HD but greyed out

- Click on the greyed out one

- On the top bar you should see: Verify, Info... click on Unlock and enter the password your were asked to make for FileVault

- Next click on File at the very top and you should see 'Turn off encryption' .. click it.

- You will have to enter your password once again.

- Either a progress bar will appear and if not restart your macbook as usual.. log in and go to system preference, security and Privacy, FileVault and hopefully it should be decrypting and giving you an estimated time which decreases very quickly. Hopefully this helps! it did for me and i recieved these instruction from apple on the phone about 10 minutes ago.

GOOD LUCK & hope it helps

I followed your steps to try fix this problem, however, now its stuck on decrypting and estimating time remaining, initially I did see the progress go from 70 days to 16 before it showed no numerical value at all. Wondering if I should just let it set over night, or do a time machine system restore at this point(if that would fix the issue?). Any guidance at this point would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
