Seeing the same issue here with a Mac Mini 2012 - wake from sleep, mouse cursor moves but background is a static image, no UI interaction possible.

This happens even at the login screen after a restart, i.e. no user has logged in.

Deleted SystemConfiguration folder, reset SMC and zapped PRAM - problems still persists.

I am pretty sure this is something to do with wireless networking/wake from sleep as if I delete the Wifi network interface completely from System Preferences the freeze does not happen when I wake up the Mac Mini.

If I add it back, even leaving it unconfigured and not connected to any network the Mac Mini will always lock up as described above.

I cannot see anything obvious in the log file that looks like an error on wake.

For now I am turning sleep off for the computer.

Now that's an interesting idea. When I received my Mac mini WiFi would cause huge system errors and laggy cursor movements.

I've recently enabled WiFi again after moving from a wired connection. I'm going to try disabling WiFi, it worked in the past.

Thanks for jogging my memory about this.

Had submitted my supposed success with deleting an old app here before, but that was a one-hit-wonder and the problem occured again after a normal shutdown.

Now i have tried it with the above trick from Bob Bousfield and bingo! The sleep wake works normal now, checked it several times. Other options are related to Spotlight and SystemUIserver, because both cause a lot of wakeup error messages in the system log (starting way too much wakeup events and system crashes with a frozen screen), but WLAN/networking errors are also numerous and AppleTV could also be involved over WLAN.

If that doesn't work for others, try it together with the mentioned SMC reset (i had done this reset before so i don't know if that is important or not).

I don't need WLAN on my Mini, so i'll wait for Apple and hopefully 10.10.1.

I am one signature away from buying over 20 mac devices, but right i do not know if i want this. It s not like they cannot be downgraded, it s just the "head in the sand, nothing happens" attitude that ****** me off. Can we all agree that so far Yosemite is a big disappointment?

    No we can't

But you can think what you like, I have upgraded 7 of my Macs so far, a little care and attention and I have 7 Macs that are faster than before.

Don't sign if it worries you, buy something else and don't worry.

This happens every time Apple update OSX so you probably want to avoid them all together. People just love to panic in advance.

Honestly, I would not let this thread put you off. There must be 1000's of other Mac Mini owners having no issues or this forum would be flooded.

I have upgraded my 2 other Macs to 10.10 (after checking in advance that my day-to-day software would run with no issues) and both are working perfectly.

not to confound the sleep/wake problem here, but these may be related and am wondering if other folks have noticed the same thing

    two other things that happen:

    1. I have to delete and re-create one of my email accounts for it to work (something about the password not being able to be sent securely)

    2. the sound preferences revert to default and I have to re-select the ones I want every time

Well, would have been nice to hear from Apple at least a beta of 10.10.1 or at least planning to drop an 10.10.01. My retina is a bit sluggish right now, and a bit unstable. Compared to others, it's ok i guess, but still, on Mavericks was thunder-fast.

I have the exact same issue for the first time after installing Yosemite.  On resume from sleep, I can see the desktop, and can move the cursor with the mouse, but clicking on icons, etc. does nothing, and the keyboard does nothing. A cold boot works fine. This is a Mac Mini bought in the Summer of 2014. I run no unusual software. I have eliminated all log in items in Preferences/Accounts, reset the NPRAM, have no peripherals (other than standard Apple mini mouse and wireless keyboard), and have shutdown and unplugged to reset.  It makes no difference whether a password is required or not - once it goes to sleep, this is the result, and only a forced shut-down by holding the power button and a cold boot give me control back.  This problem does not appear if it merely goes into screensaver mode - which I invoke with a hot corner.

Just want to say that I had the issue and it went away when I removed WiFi from the options (luckily I don't need it).

Tried and it does not solve this issue. Could be for Maverick but not for Yosemite. My solution for now ----->Screenshot 2014-10-20 09.22.04.png

As posted here by xanderharrison- sleep wake problem with Yosemite on my Mac Mini Mid 2012

unplugging my external speakers from the headphone socket also stopped the freezing.

Is this a common factor for all the people experiencing the lockup here?
