No audio in Safari after Yosemite upgrade

After upgrading to Yosemite I get no audio in Safari when I play videos. The same videos give me audio in Fire Fox. I also get audio in iTunes.

I have tried restarting my computer, but that didn't fix the problem. Any ideas on how to fix this?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

I had the same problem and fixed it by going to settings - audio - output and changing it to internal speakers. It was on Soundflower (2CH) whatever that is. Hope this helps

I had the exact same issue since updating to Yosemite but it affected not only audio in Safari but also iTunes music, Youtube, videos, etc. Seems that it was resetting to Soundflower 2Ch or 64ch (found under System Preferences/Sound) instead of internal speakers or Headset as case should be. I could change it back to Internal speakers but every time I restarted computer it would go back to Soundflower setting and I would loose audio again. Turns out SoundFlower was installed with program called Splashtop Streamer/Personal and is poorly designed as it tries to take over audio like that!

How to get rid of it:

On the Desktop navigate to Go to Folder under Go menu and type in /System/Library/Extensions

Delete the entry called Soundflower.kext and reboot the computer.

Check the System Preferences/Sound and it should be gone from your list.

Your audio should now be back to normal.

When you have Audio Hijack Pro installed: you have the option to install some extra's - Instant On

I removed Instant On from: Macintosh HD ▸ Library ▸ Audio ▸ Plug-Ins ▸ HAL ▸ InstantOn.driver directory

Did a new Instant On install: solved --> sound = ok now

I only had the sound issue in Youtue video's via Safari

Youtube video's via Chrome had the sound level ok, strange enough

I was having the same issue and this is what worked for me.

1. In Safari, clear your history and website data,

2. Then go to System Preferences in the Apple Menu and choose Flash Player.

3. Choose Advanced.

4. Under Browsing Data and Settings - click on "Delete All"

5. Check Delete All Site Data and Settings and click Delete All

Did that and then opened up YouTube on Safari and was finally able to hear audio. Hopefully it works for you too.

I just had this issue today. Nearly brand new MBA, complete clean install.

I noticed a Safari update coupla days ago. Then, yesterday that there was a new Flash, so I updated that. This morning, no sound. Did what a lot of other did. No joy. Cause I had stuff to do, went to Chrome as default and then, some hours later, it stops playing YouTube sound as well, so i look again.

Thanks man, this did the trick. Total Flash issue.
