Internet Sharing not working

Hello,

I used to plug my iphone to my macbook via usb, so I can share my iphone's internet connection using the wifi from Macbook to my ipad and playstation...

The problem is that since I've upgraded my Macbook to Yosemite, it has stopped working.

I already tried to reset all the settings, and rebooting several times and it still does not work.

Sharing the connection via Bluetooth still works tough...

I did an update installation of Yosemite.

My Specs:

Macbook Unibody late 2009

2,26Ghz Intel core 2 Duo

ram: 4Gb 1067Mhz DDR3

HDD: 240Gb Crucial SSD

Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce 9400m 256MB

Thank You for your help 😉

Hi Nando001,

Welcome to the Apple Support Community!

I understand that you would like to share your iPhone’s personal hotspot to you computer via USB. I am glad to hear that it is still working via Bluetooth but that is not the connection you prefer. For troubleshooting the USB connection, I suggest reading over and working through the steps in the attached article.

Yes I have a similar problem, I could share my internet connection over wifi from my macbook using Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks but immediately I updated to Yosemite I cannot share my connection.

I was sharing my iPhone internet connection using USB through my macbook and have not changed anything other than Yosemite, any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't have any other way of accessing the internet.

I've tried turning Firewall off but it has no effect, still no sharing.

I've tried Bluetooth and that doesn't work either.

There is no problem with the iPhone hotspot as it shares the connection with my mac, it's just the mac sharing the internet with everything else which is the problem.

Regards

Phil

Did anyone get anywhere with this?

I'm also trying to use my iPhone's connection to my macbook using USB - that part works fine.

I then want to use Internet Sharing, to "Share your connection from: " iPhone USB, "To computers using" Wi-Fi.

Whenever I tick Internet Sharing with those options, I get the prompt to "Start" it, but after that nothing happens.

I've tried the same using Bluetooth as the "Share your connection from", and that shares over Wi-Fi fine. iPhone USB won't share.

Same thing here: no more Internet Sharing of USB-iPhone to WiFi.

WiFi icon on menubar stays the same without changing to the "upward arrow" symbol and starting sharing.

Since I really needed it for a class I've been trying for hours and I succeeded only once to get it working (sharing working and appropriate icon displayed on menubar) with lots of reboots and SMC/PRAM resets, but I could not re-create the sequence anymore. After a reboot no more internet sharing.

I've tried to delete all network preferences in library, removing and re-adding USB-iPhone from the list of devices in network pref panel, with no result.

I have a non-clean Yosemite installation (installed upon 10.9).

They came back and informed me, that with Mac OS 10.10. the option to use iPhone as a modem and MacBook as a router/access point, e.g. internet sharing with WLAN / iPhone is NO LONGER supported. Hence this functionality availaible with Maverick was shut down without notice or reasons I can understand.

If you use Ethernet and WLAN for internet sharing it works.

I forwarded this as a suggestion / complain to Apple. But at least for 10.10.2 no change. Still and will not work.

My internet sharing from my iPhone USB to Ethernet had been working with Yosemite , ...until yesterday....

Why would apple suddenly not supporting such a normal / useful function. This setup is crucial to my home network setup and I have been using it for years. Is there official documentation from apple stating that they have dropped support for this part of their Operating System? Or can you show me how apple responded to you?

I really need this fixed. Thanks for the info JeanNicolas

Same here. It was back working in 10.10.1 right after the update, tried today with 10.10.2 and nothing. It works only if you share Ethernet, not iPhone.

If this is really not supported anymore it should be clearly written somewhere and you should get a notice (or the iPhone menu item removed!).

I guess it's yes another 10.10 bug.

On my console log I have several messages like this:

22/02/15 12:03:34,580 airportd[34]: WARNING: com.apple.preferences.sharing.remoteservice (385) is not entitled for com.apple.wifi.keychain, temporarily allowing request with background priority —— all entitlement requirements will be strictly enforced in a future release

No clues..
