Using multiple accounts in Family Sharing

Good question. I am currently trying to use my App store credit to buy an app but it will only ty and charge my spouses account.

Wait so if we get a gift card we cant use it on our account and it will charge the main account???

If the family member has a balance then that will be used instead of the organiser's payment method, from Family purchases and payments - Apple Support :

After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card. As the family organizer, any receipts generated by the transaction will be sent to you.

What if you have your own debit/credit card hooked up?

Based on what that article says it will be ignored, and unless you have a balance on your account it will be charged to the family organiser

this isn't how it works for my account. i can't figure out how people get it done that way. my hubby has his own balance and it's not being used when he makes a purchase.

i wish people who say gift cards and store credit will work would explain how..! i have the same issue. my husband has store credit and it won't be used for his purchase automatically, and he can't figure out how to use it.

He is logged into his account on the device/computer that he is buying items from, and is he the family organiser or a family member ?

that depends on how you put him when you added him

go to settings > iCloud > Family > it will tell you there under his name if its a Parent/Guardian or the age, if its the age then he is "family member"

click on his name and the Parent/Guardian should be On, on his phone do the same and make sure the "Share my purchases" is green
