Do a reboot; hold the button on top of the iPad at the same time as the round home button on the front until you see the white apple appear then let go.  I had to do this just a few minutes ago because I lost my sound too.  Ah, the joys of upgrade.

ST  are tou talking about Ipad2 or iPad 2 mini. Ipad2 , the former was launched 2011 and 3 yrs is very long in Apple's book.

dDONT know when the latter was launched,

i bought my ipad2 in 2012, so it's about 2 years old, and I use it a lot.

I much prefer the iPad2 for browsing, and on long car journeys a lot easier to read  ( i am a passenger! Doing the map reading).  The ipad mini does have its place, easier and far lighter to carry.

i Won't reset to factory as I really don't see why I should, Apple advised me online on ipad2 to download, I did so, Apple Store worker tellsme ipad2 won't support new download.

when I geT a definitive answer I shall move there

OK so how do I go about purchasing an Apple product from the USA as  the iPad is no longer stocked by Apple in UK.  Do you think Apple will give me the return fare?  And then when the USA only iPad 2 goes ping and I have to take it back to USA as UK no longer can mend it, will Apple give me another return fare for this.  I live in hope and expectations!!!

Your answer completely contradicts what was said to me by an Apple member of sales staff in a UK store and from what I can see on a UK Apple website, that the old IPad 2, innards cannot cope with the new latest 8. whatever upgrade, and no the 8.  cannot be removed.

Perhaps an Apple rep can answer this, who do I believe an Apple store sales rep or Star Traveler, does ST work for Apple inc/plc

I don't work for Apple, but the Apple "facts" speak for themselves (not "my facts"). An "Apple fact" is that they have officially said the iPad 2 will work with iOS 8. Another "Apple fact" is that they are definitely selling the iPad 2 on their online store website. Another "Apple fact" is that Apple will sell an AppleCare contract on that iPad 2 which means they will support it fully with their customer support for two more years.

Those are "Apple facts" that speak for themselves, regardless of what I say or anyone else says.

I Been busy ST for a couple of days packing my case for America where you state I can buy an ipad2.

oh shucks I looked at the States website and no Ipad2's to be seen!

now I shall miss out my little trip.  Are you sure you saw this ?

i Think you must be foreign to the UK.  No one here would dream of using the initials of ST, and no sorry I wont translate

Can I do a complete reset, reload of iOS, and restore of data/photos via icloud or is iTunes required for any part of this process?  Everything that made the iPad fun went away with the iOS 8 "upgrade".

For a "clean system install" ... iTunes would be required. You can do an erase on the iOS device itself, but it will leave the existing system files in place. ITunes will get rid of it. And then, you can do a backup, using iCloud, but it does have limitations, and if you're not fully aware of them, ypu might get mad if you lose some of your data. If you know what the limitations are, you won't lose any of your data. But usino iTunes for the backup will inside you get a 100% backup, no matter what.

The process (amd backup) is as follows ...

I know right! I have a IPad Mini as well, while ive had it for a year, I don't have ANY extra apps, just the ones which come with. the only thing occupying any space would be my photographs and books. of which the snaps are within the 400 count and I have about 150 books. Which should not create lag at all! I never had this problem, and before updating I had about 600 books, I guess. Anyway, after updating, Safari, Notes and IBooks all seem to be so sluggish. The Ibooks is the most frustrating of all! It literally takes about 25-30 seconds to either flip a page, highlight or note. And if I get annoyed and accidently double click, the whole thing freezes! It's so so very frustrating. I have never felt such a ardent urge to fling my IPad across the room before =_=

is there a way to fix this? Because lack of space due to unnecessary trash, is definitely not the case.

    *********** PROBLEMS FIXED ************

I have spent the last month trying to get my iPad 2 running like it did before 8.0 and 8.1. Finally chatted with Apple support for two hours trying many things. Then I  followed their instructions to do a full factory reset, reinstalled all my apps, and recreated all of my email accounts.

Nothing, nothing, nothing worked! My iPad still runs crappy and web browsing (on any browser) was still tortuously slow and choppy.

Then I tried this..... I put the iPad on a shelf,  went out and bought a Surface Pro 3. Now my tablet is running with lightning speed with an abundance of apps, and the user interface is performing great!

    Bye Bye Apple.

Is there anyway to do this on my own Mac? Or must I bring it to the Apple store?
