Yosemite + MS Word / Excel "Yikes Moment" SOLUTION . . .
OKAY, SO... HAD TO SHARE this easy fix!
All of our MS Word + Excel files were all opening super-wonky (think: all your file previews looked scrambled, margins messed up, tables out of alignment, everything out of place, colored tabs disappeared . . . totally screwed up). My wife has hours and days of files she's created and having a major conniption fit . . . crying even from the rooftops "You updated this without talking to me -- why don't you ever COMMUNICATE with me . . . I think we need to see other people."
Anyways, after some dismay, and cooling down, she accepted my help again . . . First, we ran MS Office Updater from the Help menu -- actually posted 4 days ago pre-Yosemite -- but to no avail. But thankfully, the SOLUTION was super easy, and no files were affected.
The Culprit: We have both Office Mac 2008 . . . AND . . . 2011 versions still. Double clicking files to open them, or via Spotlight search, opened all of the newer files with 2008. Thus, newer 2011 docs and xls 's were all buggy looking in 2008 (. . . which MS stopped supporting altogether Apr 2014 it appears).
It took a few minutes to realize --> both versions of Word and Excel were open in the Dock (we have hiding turned on, and didn't notice).
Moved 2008 to the trash.
Everything performs now with 2011 like it should 😍 and we even smooched to seal our joy.
PHEEW!
