My Kodak printer doesn't work with Yosemite

My wife and I share a Kodak ESP7250 printer connected with Wi-Fi. Since we upgraded to Yosemite, we haven't been able to print any documents.

I have gone to the printer utility and was able to print a test page.

But when I print a test item from Notes or text edit, the printer takes a long time, seemingly printing one line, waiting and then another line. Except the paper is blank, and the printer icon tells me that an unexpected error has occurred. I then open print the print utility which tells me that I don't have a connection.

I can shut everything down and repeat the steps above. The error my printer icon shows comes up before it laboriously prints the blank page.

I downloaded the Kodak utilities which tell me that my drivers are up to date.

I waited for the Kodak chat on its queue until it finally told me nobody was available, so maybe they know the trouble.

Maybe trying the Generic PS or PCL printer when adding the printer will work?

Are there any messages related to the print job in Console? In the main section or /var/cups/logs/error_log?

You could try upgrading the firmware, but Kodak hasn't released a driver for this model since 5/2013.

When I try adding a printer, my Mac doesn't see a new printer to add. I even added the USB and ethernet plugs (My wife's computer is in a different room, so she needs WiFi). I tried deleting and adding the printer and don't see anything different.

Sorry, but I suggest you talk to Kodak. You should at least see the printer available to add when it's connected with USB.

I am having the same issue with my KODAK ESP Office 6150. I print and it shows in the Print Queue and sound like it is pulling paper and beginning to print, then it acts like it is printing a line and then pauses, then an error message pops up stating that the was an unexpected error. When I cancel the print a blank piece of paper pops out of the machine.

I have tried re-installing the printer software and nothing changes. I have erased and re-added the printer to the list in System Preferences to no avail. The machine does everything else OK (Fax, Scan, etc.)

I sure hope there is a fix for this!

Can you check the /var/log/cups in /Utilities/Console to see if you see any sandbox errors, please? Doing a search for "sandbox" should show any. Thank you.

I see lots of messages when I search for Sandbox. Some of these are for things I thought were completely uninstalled. (I suspect a big reason I have performance issues is that I have a bunch of installed stuff that weren't cleanly uninstalled - but I'm afraid if I start over, I will lose some stuff I want to keep).

Thank you. Do you see any sandbox messages in /var/log/cups in Console?

If this is a sandbox issue, you shouldn't expect any help from Kodak since they are not in the printer business anymore. Buying a new printer will probably be the best solution. Getting an AirPrint printer will remove any problems with drivers.

I am also having problems with a kodak printer, it has worked fine with Mountain lion and Mavericks, so whats different with Yosemite?????

I'm having the same problem with not being able to print on my Kodak ESP 7250 via WiFi since upgrading to Yosemite . Really Apple, you suggest we buy a new printer when it worked fine before updating!

FWIW I'm getting the same printing problems with my 5200 series (over USB and wireless), after installing Yosemite and then reinstalling the printer drivers (last updated by Kodak in May last year).

The printer pulls in a sheet, then stops, and the utility reports an unexpected error.

When I stop the job, the printer ejects the sheet.

My most recent cups error log says:

E [18/Oct/2014:13:32:30 +0100] KODAK_ESP_5200_Series_AiO: Directory "/Library/Image Capture/Devices/KODAK AiO Scan Driver.app/Contents/Resources" has insecure permissions (040775/uid=0/gid=80).

W [19/Oct/2014:11:07:49 +0100] [Job 1] Printer is ready to go.

W [19/Oct/2014:18:34:49 +0100] [Job 2] Printer is ready to go.

E [19/Oct/2014:21:39:50 +0100] [Job 5] Unable to write print data: Broken pipe

E [20/Oct/2014:20:18:18 +0100] [cups-deviced] PID 1051 (cups-pdf) stopped with status 86!

Looks like a driver issue for Kodak, I shall just have to go paperless until they sort it out. 😢

EDIT: resetting the printing system didn't help either.

I think the

message is a result of increased security efforts in Yosemite.
