Q: My Kodak printer doesn't work with Yosemite

My wife and I share a Kodak ESP7250 printer connected with Wi-Fi.   Since we upgraded to Yosemite, we haven't been able to print any documents.

I have gone to the printer utility and was able to print a test page.

But when I print a test item from Notes or text edit, the printer takes a long time, seemingly printing one line, waiting and then another line.   Except the paper is blank, and the printer icon tells me that an unexpected error has occurred.   I then open print the print utility which tells me that I don't have a connection.

I can shut everything down and repeat the steps above.   The error my printer icon shows comes up before it laboriously prints the blank page.

I downloaded the Kodak utilities which tell me that my drivers are up to date.

I waited for the Kodak chat on its queue until it finally told me nobody was available, so maybe they know the trouble.

I did the relaxed sanding code and my printer will now print, however I can not photo print. I get a drop down menu for selecting 4x6, but when I try to print it just prints from the regular paper. It is close to Christmas and we usually do some photo printing, so if I can not get photo printing done  will still be buying a new printer.

Is anybody else having this issue?

The reason that the downgrade to Mavericks works is because the sandboxing permissions are different on Mavericks than they are on Yosemite. Yes, Kodak has to update the drivers, but downgrading to Mavericks is not the "only immediate solution."  Read the other threads here where people have had success with the "sandboxed relaxed" workaround - the same workaround that Kodak gives on their site to get their printers working on Yosemite.

I have had absolutely no issues with my ESP 5250 since following the instructions on the Kodak site.

    No need to delete Yosemite.

I tried a few times to input the fix in Terminal and got nowhere but eventually tried the fix from kodak referred to earlier. It didn't work first time but then I just put the last line in, on its own and now my ESP 5250 printer works fine. I'm still fed up with the problems Apple's updates cause me though. I just don't think they give a ****, the cash just keeps on rolling in. I'm seriously considering boycotting all companies that don't pay full UK tax.

Read some of the earlier threads.

The sandbox changes in Yosemite are for your protection, so that your sensitive data is not exposed.

Kodak is not even in the printer business anymore. Is Apple supposed to stop their development?

What does any of that have to do with paying taxes?

You should get a new printer, maybe an AirPrint printer so you don't have to rely on manufacturers and when they update their drivers.

If the new sandbox rule does protection then a "fix' of disabling it may not be a good idea.

On the other hand, Apple should be responsible to make sure OS upgrades don't make our hardware useless.

Remember when people said that Macs just worked?    And we believed them?

The "fix" is a workaround so it's not necessary to revert to Mavericks. Setting it to "sandboxed relaxed" does not disable sandboxing. Setting it to "sandboxed no" does, which I think is why the moderators pulled the posts suggesting that you should use "sandboxed no."

I don't mean this the way it sounds, but why should Apple be responsible for ensuring that a printer from a manufacturer who is no longer in the printing business (and hasn't been for over two years) still works? Apple provides releases to developers before the betas are released to the public - it's up to the developers.

OS 9? Classic? PowerPC? Technology evolves.

Again, I don't mean this the way it sounds, but the mac still works. Research can be done before installing a major release. And to avoid this the next time, when the "sandboxed relaxed" workaround may not work, you should consider getting an AirPrint printer - that way you don't rely on the manufacturers and their schedules for releasing updated software.

A new issue that started this week.   When I print my monthly calendar from iCal, the left margin is smaller.   When I print two sided, half of the first day is missing.   When I print one sided, it is barely readable.    That is printing from my wife's computer or from mine.

I had the same issue and couldn't find anything easily. The kodak website got me answers fast and it was easy to do. This has been posted by others but it should be reposted so others can see it easily:

Whoops, I just saw Suziwoodee's post - this post is just a ditto:

Just bought a new MBP w Yosemite and had the same issue with my old old Kodak 5100. But it's a good printer. So, I opened a Terminal window followed the Sandboxing instructions in this post and it worked like a champ. My printer is back in business.

Kodak has a support page with the same instructions here:

That is exactly the same error message my Kodak 3250 yells out at me.

I just love the way two corporations, Apple and Kodak, dodge the issue:  It's not my fault it's his fault. The printer works in Mavericks and even in SnowyLeopard.  All of a sudden it stops working in Yosemite??? Sure, it's an out of production printer but so are many other hardware products i have connected to my iMac desktop, including my desktop iMac ( 2009 editon ). So should I scrap my iMac ???  Apple should do some serious re-write of their printer codes as well as many other codes because at the moment I hate YOSEMITE. I'm glad in a sense it is installed on an external firewire drive and so i can bail out and use Mavericks or even SnowLeopard which i have to in order to print.
