Sep 29, 2015 1:47 PM in response to kensachiby Gnarlodious,My iPod has been rendered useless by some past update. Well, not exactly useless. I can still play music that was on it at the time. Just can’t sync new songs.

Oct 12, 2015 11:26 AM in response to sterling rby GrantusM,Resetting the iPod by holding "Menu" and the centre of the wheel for 15sec while connected and then restoring the iPod from iTunes was a good first step. Then, dismounting, shutting down iTunes and restarting the MacBook did the trick.
Thank you.

Nov 24, 2015 8:26 PM in response to RossMilnerby bradfordswood,I am having a lot of trouble all of the sudden with my iPod classic 160GB. Normally I have no problem plugging in the device and syncing to iTunes. This week I've been experiencing all of the problems outlined in this thread: iTunes not seeing the device, error messages, requests to reset the device to factory settings, etc. All of the files on my iPod have been erased, and my iMac barely recognizes the device. It keeps asking me to restore the device to factory default settings, and then during the process tells me it can't restore the device because it can't see it. I am running OS 10.6.8 and iTunes 11.4. PLEASE reach out to me as my Apple products have been rendered useless during this process. I am quite frustrated with this situation, and would be thrilled to know of a solution to the problem.

Dec 10, 2015 7:43 AM in response to bradfordswoodby bradfordswood,Update...I was able to get it working for about a week. Initially it seemed to be a problem with a USB hub.
Yesterday, I plugged in my iPod to sync with iTunes and add some new music. After syncing and ejecting, it gave me the "no music" issue again. Would someone from APPLE please reach out to me?

Dec 10, 2015 8:52 AM in response to bradfordswoodby turingtest2,This is a user to user support forum. Apple don't reach out to respond individually. The community specialists may post links to support articles, but they don't generally get involved in detailed troubleshooting. Take a look at Re: Corrupt iPod classic if you haven't before. What are the stats?

Sep 26, 2016 8:00 AM in response to bradfordswoodby sfsmusique,It's September 2016 and I just had the same experience with my previously flawless 160GB iPod classic. I wanted to add a few tracks and podcasts to the large collection I already have on this iPod. I've never had a problem before doing manual syncs in the past.
Today I tried connecting my iPod classic to my MB Pro 13-inch (circa 2011), which is still running on Mavericks with iTunes 12.5.1.21. For the first time ever, iTunes doesn't recognize my iPod! I have the same experience that others cited here: it shows up on the desktop, but not in iTunes.
Someone added a link to an HT article on corrupt iPods. Let me just say that there's nothing wrong with my iPod. It's not corrupt. There's nothing wrong with the cable -- it's the same cable that I always use. There's nothing wrong with my Mac. I also don't intend to reset my iPod (deleting my entire collection of tracks and podcasts). I don't think I need to start reinstalling software on my Mac.
There's something wrong with iTunes 12. This is an Apple software problem and they haven't fixed something that's been an issue since 2014. This thread is two years old and I see no movement. I know Apple doesn't sell iPod classic anymore, but I can hardly believe that iPod and iTunes are no longer compatible. These products were -- and still are -- key to Apple's success. You can no longer use the slogan "It just works." PLEASE FIX.

Sep 27, 2016 8:21 AM in response to RossMilnerby Momomoesh,My MAC desktop won't even recognize the iPod Classic. It doesn't show up in Disc utility or in Finder. I've tried resetting the iPod, and it doesn't sync or show up. Haven't lost my old music but can't sync the new additions. This is very frustrating.
Any help greatly appreciated
