Q: iPhoto won't upgrade in Yosemite

I have the same issue except that when I click on the Search App Store button but this is the message I get:

Don't search the App Store. Look on the Purchases list.

How did you get it to delete and then re"purchase" it from the App store? it won't let me delete it and when i search for iphoto in the app store it says it's not available in my country, which is the US. There's also no iphoto showing up in the app store. I also tried to search for it in the apple store online and nothing helpful. Thanks!

Hi, I know this is an older thread but I'm having the same issue. I first tried to delete iPhoto then re-install it, but even looking in purchases I cannot find it,. I bought this laptop a few months ago and I haven't been able to use iPhoto at all. Any ideas?

What version of iPhoto is on there?

This must be a joke from Apple.  It's a complete **** up and we shouldn't have to jump through these hoops to access our own pictures.  I ask why do I use iPhoto, then. 

If you don't want to update apps then don't update the OS.

I Did not update the OS myself. I bought the computer and Yosemite was already installed. I don't know what version is on it. & I barely know how to use this computer because I've been a pc user for years and am now njst making the switch. I have followed everything in this thread. I called apple support but being on hold for over 30 minutes doesn't bode well with me. there is only one version of iPhoto on the laptop and has the "no" symbol on it. I tried to delete it, then looked for it in purchases in the App Store and it isn't there. Any suggestions?

Was iPhoto on the machine when you bought it? Or did you install it as part of the set-up process?

Amazing that appel not just communicate that you must first update iphoto to the latest version before upgrading. It´s just a message before. We sits million worldwide and contend with the issue. On Danish side where I am, I read about many desperate and no help from appel away what you should have done

1. You don't have to update before upgrading the OS. You can do it after.

2. The upgrade to iPhoto was released a month before the upgrade to Yosemite.

Oddly enough, many millions pf people kept up-to-date and had no problem.

Just strange that so many have problem. Appel writes in support that they recommende you first update iphoto. Fo me and amny others can not upgrade afterwards. Otherwise, you tell me another method

How to upgrade after? All over this thread and the forum.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
