Volume disabled when plugging in headphones

On a Macbook Pro, and having downloaded Yosemite during the Beta period, there have been no problems before this. However, recently, whenever I plug in my headphones, the volume slider button and sound itself appears to be disabled as shown in picture. Sound preferences panel/Audio MIDI setup also showed. Headphones work on Windows computer.

Hi, sorry for late reply, I reset the computer's PRAM and I (think I) reset the SMC and the sound still appears the same(not working).

If resetting the SMC is just

'

  • Shut down the computer.
  • Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
  • On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
  • Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
  • Press the power button to turn on the computer.'

Then I have done that. Is there any other possible ways in which I could fix the sound?

Sorry for any inconvenience.
