Q: My phone qualifies for the iphone 5 battery replacement program. Why is it necessary to erase data and settings?

My iphone 5 qualifies for the battery replacement program. Why is it necessary to erase data and settings? Will my texts, and items in CLEAR be saved?

    I think the point is probably that Apple does not guarantee your data when your phone is at their service center, and they will need any iCloud lock to be removed. Your best approach is to back up your phone first, preferably to your computer, and then restore it when it gets back from Apple.
