Notification Centre does not Remember Settings

I too was thinking Notifications was not fixed but you might need to wait until some new notifications are "pushed" to you. That began happening on my iMac after many minutes of a blank Notifications panel.

there's more that isn't fixed yet:

• MAS showing phantom updates
• Macs keep renaming themselves at random
• Location services not working reliably

and I suspect there's possibly more. 😟 So, let's wait what 10.10.2 will bring... I just hope that Mail and Safari crashes are gone now at least.

Hi Adrian,

Notifications seem fixed not on my wife's Mid 2011 iMac 27". All other Macs I used the recipe described which worked there. I didn't try the recipe on my wife's iMac. I forgot to do it there. 🙂

Notifications are NOT FIXED on my iMac 27" mid 2012 and they are NOT FIXED on my 2012 MacBook Air 13". No typos anywhere. Adrian, London

Update to OS X 10.10 1 fixed the problem of Notifications not remembering settings.

1. Before you do the update, check your Notification settings and set them to your desired settings. Then, 😉

2. Update to 10.10.1 (which involves restart).

3. After restart, check your Notification settings. (they will have appeared to have not remembered again. BUT!🙂

4. Go to Notifications and set them again to what you want, again.

5. Restart.

6. Open Notifications and

7. You will see that they are now retained.

I've purposely restarted a few times through the day since the update and with the exception of the initial restart, my Notification settings have thusly been retained and remembered.🙂

Rockeeeeee (why so many e's?) I have done all the above. Ticked. Unticked. Ticked. Unticked. Restarted. Restarted. Picked my nose a couple of times. Ticked again. Restarted. AGAIN. IT DOESN'T WANT TO KNOW. Sorry, I know you're trying to help but Notifications is completely DEAD.

What kind of Mac are you on? I'm on a late 2009 iMac, 21.5 inch.

The notifications that I use are for Mail and Messages and Calendar.

What about you? Sorry it's not worked for you (yet).

What about going into Notifications and setting them to OFF? Restart. See what happens, and go from scratch- or....reset pram first...

(I've been told by an Apple Tech a while back, that if something is acting BUGGY, to reset pram. )

Maybe do a PRAM reset, (shut down, hold command+option+P+R keys while restarting until you hear the second chime- then let go).

Then do the above. Maybe.......this will be your lucky day...I hope. I know it's frustrating.

Thanks Rocke x 7. I have just done a Pram reset. Nada. I have picked my nose again. A special DEEP pick. I'm going to leave it till morning now (11.17pm in London) and maybe give my backside a bit of a rub or at least a slap. You never know. It might just work. Because everything else HASN'T! Thanks Rockeeeeeee, Thanks for the nose pick back-up in NY. Hopefully you picked a winner. Overnight, no change. I've even restarted a couple of times. For old time's sake. And I unticked and ticked. Again. As the problem is replicated on my Mac Air 2012, I think I will take the Mac Air into a central London Apple store and ask them to give a view. I'll update. Thanks

The issue has now been fixed on my 2010 iMac with the 10.10.1 update. All my settings are staying put.

Yea! This worked for me. However, a note if you're going to try it. After doing the terminal commands I had to restart, adjust the notifications, and then restart again in order for them to stick. I had adjusted the notifications prior to doing the terminal commands, and was disappointed when they didn't stick after the first restart. But after changing them and then restarting again, they seem to have stuck.

This solution worked for me: I deleted the database file in ~/Library/Application Support/NotificationCenter/ then restarted. Changed the Notification Center settings to my liking, restarted again, and this time they stayed properly. It's definitely a user-specific issue (verified in a test account), so if you don't want to go messing around in the root library you can always create a new admin user for yourself and Finder-copy all your data over, but I found this to be much easier.

I followed the earlier Terminal advice. To the letter. And it meant a Terminal end to my Notification Center folder, now completely disappeared from Application Support. I have tried to get a Genius Bar appointment in Central London but all the Geniuses have full schedules. For the moment. Perhaps they're helping other exasperated Mac users with no-show Notifications.
