Q: Yosemite and Java Runtime Environment?

So,

I did it, after the catastrophe that was the update to 8.02 on my pad and phone,

I updated to Yosemite on my Mac, expecting the worst.

But, all seemed to go smoothly until I installed Java Runtime Environment 8u25

I installed, I even used the check online option to see if it was correct,

and still every time I start my Mac,

it tells me that I can not see this website because I don't have Jave

1) i haven't opened the browser

2) after opening the browser everything works fine

Help anyone??

P.S.: Why is there no chat online with the support staff option in Germany anymore???

I'm living with the popup on my iMac, however I'm curious why I didn't get the same message on My MacBook Air after I installed Yosemite.  The MacBook Air works perfectly with no popups and I went from Mavericks to Yosemite just as I did on my iMac.  As already stated, I'd rather live with the popup on the iMac than add software for no apparent reason other than removing the popup.

I got clarification from a user that installing 6 does not compromise security and Java 8 continues on the computer.  Having 6 just allows the browser to handle the sites that need it.  I did it and now don't get the popups.  I would suggest doing that.

Java does not recognize Yosemite version 10.10, it thinks it is version 10.1

If you download and install the JDK version of Java 8u25, the problem goes away.

For me it's the other way round. I get the pop up on the MB Air and not on the iMac.
The problem is it will suddenly appear in the middle of a presentation on Keynote !

I am installing the Apple version of Java 6 and see what happens.
    Thanks for the solution.

Well YoCraig solution helped. It does not show any more. Just for the sake of conversation I think that this issue should have been solved by someone in Apple because there is a lot of topics like these all over the net.

    Thank you for interest YoCraig

    Hi,

I have solved this problem by installing the Development kit 8 from here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.h tml Be careful: you have to download the MAC 209.13mb version, not the demo version in the box beneath.

    Le't try, it should work.

    Ciao

Just chatted with Apple and got the same as on other posts re this issue: after Yosemite install then trying to use Safari a pop-up requests Java Runtime. Sends you to Oracle which downloads latest version 8. Good safe version but as Apple tech noted: " As it happens, Java did not include a particular file in the latest version to make it compatible with Yosemite (at least not yet); so by adding this update you still are running Java 8; but the file needed comes from Java 6. It sounds complicated but trust me… it works and you’ll be totally secure."

So, answer is: go ahead and download/use Oracle's version 8 (which you've probably already done). If you're getting the pop-up saying you need Java to view content, go to Apple site and download 6 as well, but leave 8 alone. All good.

I also keep receiving this warning on my computer. It started about 2 weeks ago after I upgraded to Yosemite. This window pops up even when I'm not connected to the internet and when browsers are not even open. It interrupts me when doing anything from typing in word to watching a movie from a file on my computer. It won't let me do anything on my MacBook without clicking OK to dismiss it and then it pops up an hour later. It pops up right away when I restart my computer.

Another forum told me the only way to fix it was to upgrade Java. This is something I tried initially, but it only made the issue worse.

I did not know how useless it was when I upgraded it and I have uninstalled from my computer since. Now I have java blocked on all my web browsers with the exception of java script. I have my settings so that Java script is allowed, but all Java plug-ins are blocked. I am STILL getting this pop-up. Help me please!!

Use this link in a browser other than Safari: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572 (For some reason, Safari tends to show a blank white page.)

    Example with Firefox:

Here's my post from a few weeks ago on one of the many other threads that are the same as this one. It works.:

Found the suggestion to download Java using this link on another site, and it worked.  So simple.

    Java for OS X 2014-001

I had followed other advice, installing various versions of Java including JRE and Java 8, and upgraded to the 64 bit Chrome browser, based on various advice.  None of this worked, then I just simply followed this linke, installed Java 6 (I think) on top of everything else, restarted, and the annoying popup stopped.  So would try this first.

I too had this annoyance after installing Yo on top of Mav. So far, that's the only glitch, other than that my finder takes forever to index and show contents windows full of files.
I think that Apple should patch a Yosemite update to fix all of the reported issues. To not do fix these is way too Microsoft for this 25-year Apple user.

    End of story.
(Hey Steve... some of us really miss you.)

    Hi,

    I solved doing the following:

Go to "/System/Library/Java/Support", delete "CoreDeploy.bundle" and then reboot.

If you hit show package content you'll see that there's a "Download Java Components.app" inside. This app try to update Java every time you login, even if you don't have Java installed (i don't have it on my Mac).
