Q: Strange Java message at login after Yosemite Install

This is what I did in Safari.

1. Click on Safari and select Preferences
2. Choose the Security option
3. Select Allow Plug-ins, then click on Manage Website Settings
4. Click on the Java item, select an option (Ask, Allow or Allow Always) from the pulldown list When visiting other websites
5. Click Done, then close the Safari Preferences window

Giving that a try.  If I get through the day without a popup then I'll report back.  I'm assuming I'll have to approve each time Java tries to run?

update: About 5 minutes later and I get the same error message.  I guess the fix is somewhere else.  I'll try closing and reopening Safari.

This will definitely fix the problem, if it still pops up for you.  Install this version. You don't have to uninstall any of the others versions of Java. After installing this version a couple days ago I have not had a repeat pop up. Hope it works for you.

Thanks.  I restarted Safari and so far I haven't seen it.  I'm going to wait to see if it pops up again before installing Java 6 as you suggest.  My concern is that I thought 6 had security problems.  I'm not a tech person so I don't want to make a mistake on something I really don't understand.  Thanks again.

Java 8 build 25 will still be your active Java script so no security problems. Java 6 is only going to be used by the program that is asking for it and for most of us it is hard to determine which program that is.

To test which Java is active on your Mac go to System preferences, click on Java in the bottom row, then wait for the Java control panel to come up. In the General tab click About. It will tell you what is running.

Java for OS X 2014-001 - I used this link to install and restarted the Mac. That should do it

When I do this Java does not appear in the list of plugins. What do I do? I have installed Java runtime environment 8.40, but it doesn't work and Java doesn't show up when I go to Safari preferences, security, allow plugins and website settings.
