boot very slow after installed Yosemite

I have a Macbook air from October 2013. I have successfully upgraded to Yosemite yesterday from the App store, but the problem begins after that. It boots very slow, sometimes even halt. How can I fix the issue? Thanks.

My iMac 27 did the same thing. I reset the PRAM, repaired permissions etc, to no avail.

What worked was:

Preferences / Printers : Select the active printer by RIGHT clicking. In the sub menu select: "Reset Printing System". All printers / scanners are removed.

Then: Click the '+' to add your printer back.

My system is 50 times faster... ba boom.

I've had the same problem ever since upgrading from Mavericks. My restart time went from 15 seconds to 2+ mins.

Apple knows everyone is having this problem. They just haven't responded because there isn't a fix yet. Once they know how to solve it they'll quietly send out a patch but don't expect them to ever admit that there OS is buggy.

I have Macbook Pro with Retina and strangely enough what helped was the advice from another contact on this site, which was

the following:

What worked was:

Go to Preferences / Printers : Select the active printer by RIGHT clicking. In the sub menu select: "Reset Printing System". All printers / scanners are removed. Then: Click the '+' to add your printer back.

My system is 50 times faster... ba boom.

Good luck!! Otherwise be patient, I am sure apple will solve this problem soon!!

Hi,

I have a similar problem. My booting time is fast but once I login with my password, menu bar goes black and loading spinning wheel appears. This stays for about 15 seconds and then computer is normal again. Till then I cannot use any application. Mavericks was near instant for me. Is this the slowness in login you mentioned.. If so is there any workaround?

Yes I had the same symtoms with the loading spinning wheel, but I can only repeat what I have mentioned already here before,

resetting the printer brought everything back to normal, here is what you have to do:

Go to Preferences / Printers : Select the active printer by RIGHT clicking. In the sub menu select: "Reset Printing System". All printers / scanners are removed.

Then: Click the '+' to add your printer back.

That's all and after that my mac was back on track and super fast again!!

The article linked to this one was spot on ... my problem was with the gray screen (after a partial prog load, indicated by a start-up bar which only filled about 1/4 of the way). My system froze (sometimes it would continue but most times it just froze). My problem was a printer ... when unhooked my system failed to "freeze" again. Thank you for your expertise and willingness to advise.
