Nov 10, 2014 1:18 PM in response to synergyby Ggggeorge,Was your printer directly plugged into your machine? Has anyone had success after turning off a network-attached printer?
My Brother HL-2170W printer is directly plugged in to my router. Could that be the culprit? My 2011 MacBook Air often freezes entirely or takes minutes (10+?) to boot up. This has been supremely frustrating, including 2 trips to the apple store and 1 fresh install. I've tried the RAM trick and the permissions tricks to no avail.
The frozen and slow boot-ups even happened after my fresh Yosemite install (courtesy of Apple Genius) and before I re-installed my printer drivers.
The only thing plugged in to my machine is an SD card.

Nov 10, 2014 8:43 PM in response to guma3208by iMacMiniBookPro,I have a late 2013 15in Retina Macbook Pro.
When I would turn my laptop on it would hang on a black screen for about 30 seconds before getting to the Apple logo/progress bar.
After that everything was normal.
I verified the disk in Disk Utility and needed to do a repair which was successful.
Next, I reset the SMC & rebooted. The problem persisted.
However, once I reset the PRAM (option, CMD, P, R) the issue immediately stopped.
I am back to a 10-15sec boot time.
Hope this helps.

Nov 12, 2014 6:53 AM in response to guma3208by TheUrbanDude008,Do you have McAfee? If you have McAfee, you have to boot in safe mode (by pressing shift at boot up) and then delete McAfee. After that it should be faster.
I had the same problem and this solved it...
Hope this helps

Same here. The printer trick did it. I don't understand why though.

Nov 14, 2014 10:47 AM in response to prkoatby JDAMESSE,Exactly the same problem and solution here...
Running Yosemite 10.10 on MBP Retina 13" ( Mfg: late 2013)
2,8 GHz I Core 7
16 Go / 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris 1536 Mo
With a Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock ( F4U055 )
Regardless if I use it with Thunderbolt connection via TB Retina Display or directly to the TB jack on MBP.
Once disconnected, MBP boots up very fast ( although not as fast as with the original OS X Maverick version) and regardless if plug in the TB display or not.
Now looking for a solution with BELKIN... but this was not an issue with the original OS...

Nov 16, 2014 10:42 AM in response to raravistaby Truffles100,I have a mid 2009 MB Pro. 8GB Ram, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
I did a clean install and the only thing on MB Pro is the OS. No printers, no other added programs or apps.
I'm also experiencing long boot up times. File Vault is off. I repaired disk permissions which there were some needed.
Since others with newer computers are having same issues maybe it's not because of my older laptop.

Nov 16, 2014 10:53 AM in response to Truffles100by Truffles100,Does anyone know what processes take place during the first 25% or so of the boot up status bar? Once it goes beyond that first 25%, it then goes quickly.

Nov 16, 2014 3:30 PM in response to Truffles100by cheffi,Seems like it has something to do with the new kext signing.
Had the same very slow startup issue on all my macs.
This worked on my 2012 mini with samsung sad:
Newest trim-enabler software -> disables kext signing and enables trim again
repair disk permissions
boots up like before, i don't even see the grey apple anymore (display lag), straight to desktop
