Found it. Feel like a bit of an idiot but only just found that library is hidden and you need to press the option key when in GO.
Anyway, I deleted the files, started mail and the process went thought the motions then came up with the same message. I noticed all the files had been replaced in mail data folder and also they appeared in the mailboxes folder.

Hi Seduc,
Managed to do what you suggested, there is no option to 'delete' the three files, just move to trash which I tried. Then we go through the same process, mail message import which says I have over 2000 messages - I have less than 100 - continue importing mail / upgrade failed / your mail index has been damaged! The 3 files go right back to the same spot under library/mail/v2/mail data !
I appreciate your help with this and thank you - exe photo, have you managed to sort this out yet?
Hi Amanda249 and Seduc
Like you I tried the suggestion by Seduc, I deleted the 3 files but it did not change. My Mail does not even load. I upgraded to Yosemite straight from Snow Leopard I don't know if that has any issues.
HI Exe photo and Seduc, I solved the problem by accident by doing what you said Seduc, I dragged Mail from the library onto the desktop, then clicked on the stamp and went straight to mail login - signed in and mail loaded immediately. I lost all but last 7 days but have my iPhone so no probe! Thanks Seduc for help and patience, hope it works for you too exEphoto! Amanda
amanda249, is your computer still fine and Mail working like it should? I too haven't been able to sort it out and I suspect it was Apple's idea to
urge me to buy a new iMac .. I think a 6 yr old system is really too ancient for a Yosemite upgrade!
Grtz, DD
Hi DaafjeDobber,
Mine was working fine for a week then didn't receive mails again - so repeated the process, just dragged mail onto desktop and then back to the list again- started receiving thousands of mails, all coming through repeatedly! Signed into my internet provider mail and deleted everything from there making sure I deleted the trash folder too - fingers crossed, everything ok now!
My iMac must be getting on for 5 or 6 years too! I saw on another post, probably under iMac instead of OS Yosemite post, where someone took their computer into Apple and they sorted the problem for free - worth a try - after all it is a problem with their software - not your old Mac! Good Luck. Amanda
I am having the same problem!!! Have no idea how to fix this problem, help would be really appreciated by anyone. Thanks
Thanks Seduc,
Can't find library/mail/v2/mailData/
When i go to finder/go/library there is not mail there...... please help! thx
You don't have to search. Just select next line right click and do as the image shows.
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/
You could try to (backup) drag ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail to your Desktop. Test if it works now.
Hi Amanda249, glad you got yours fixed. Seduc I have tried all the suggestions and I am still at square one.
Hi everyone, I have executed the commando given in all of the above but no results yet; after starting up Mail kees proclaiming that the index has been damaged, period.
Good suggestions, anyone?
Grtz
