Q: New iTunes 12, not recognizing device?

I just updated to the new iTunes 12 but whenever I plug in my iPod touch 5 gen to my computer, it doesn't seem to pop up on iTunes. I'm assuming it's because it's not being recognized? When I still had the older version, my iPod did show up on iTunes but I can't seem to get it to show up on the new one. I know that on the new iTunes, the device should show up on the left side of the screen instead of the right side, but it doesn't show up. I've tried restarting the computer and my iPod but it doesn't help. I'd really like to get this thing working as soon as possible, thanks!

iPod touch (5th generation), iOS 8.0.2

You have to first sync with iTunes(which is the whole reason this thread was created BECAUSE WE CAN'T SYNC)and your 'solution' doesn't work,my iPhone is set to auto sync over wi-fi and it hasn't even shown on the iTunes tab

I had this problem too, I was using USB 3.0 for connecting my iPhone. Using USB 2.0 fixed this, maybe this can work for someone else too.

Thank you very much! This was more helpful than looking through all the troubleshoot pages.

This did not work for me.  As a result, it appears that I've lost approx. 300 songs and all my playlists.  Never been a big fan of Apple that's why my only Apple product is an ipod.  Apple products and itunes are becoming a huge pain.

Lost from where? If they were on your computer before you upgraded see Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

Is this a solution for an Apple computer or PC?

Windows PC. If you have an Apple Mac see Troubleshooting iTunes installation on Mac OS X - Apple Support.

aiks... just saw suggestion similar to ben's on another website... hopefully it'll work for me too...

i aint no genius, but we r havin his problem cauz APPLE install these necessary drivers in a "TEMP" folder...

so when we clear cache or run maintenance, it'll be wiped by windows...

is it a way of apple's childish pranks on us, i aint sure... but all these is time consuming...

and we multiply that by e number of pple having this prb....

    =/

Another frustrated user after spending the whole day trying to fix the device recognization problem!

I've tried all the tricks, uninstall all the apple software, delete everything except the library, rename the library and install itunes 12 new, restart PC, restart iphone, restart service. No success!

I checked my security software and the ports, everything ok.

I also install another third-party software which claimed to do sync better than itunes and recognize devices better. But this does not recognize my devices either.

I have Windows 7, iphone 5 with IOS 8.1.2, ipad 2 and iphone 6 plus with IOS 8.1.2. After update itunes to 12, it recognize neither iphone 5, iphone 6 plus nor ipad. I noticed that the installation of itues 12 seems not to install the apple usb device driver, so I install it additionally. At least windows explorer has now recognized iphone as a portable device.

Any other ideas? Or other possibility for sync? I'd really appreaciated!

    dude,

today, i'm gonna share wif u one of the greatest discoveries i've stumbled upon for my windows laptop...

    follow this link... http://support2.microsoft.com/fixit/

    • choose install / delete or software / hardware
    • scroll all the way down and when you see "Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled", click "RUN NOW"
    • gotta do once for each process of delete; meaning no batch uninstall... butt a little patience goes a long way here...
    • uninstall ALL these - "APPLE APPLICATION SUPPORT" "APPLE MOBILE DEVICE SUPPORT" "BONJOUR" AND ITUNES...
    • i didnt uninstall my quicktime (everyting seems to be in order.
    • butt *** soo much time was already wasted, i also uninstalled java using the same method
    • (but i dont really recommend it to those who would rather not)
    • and lastly, i managed to locate and download iTunes 11.4...
    • DOWN SIDE IS, ALL OUR SAVED PERSONALISATIONS ARE GONE.... BUUTTT OUR BACKUPS STILL WORKS !!!!
    • hopefully benefits you guys.... tc....

Thanks for the hint. On a Mac, you have to change the read/write permissions of the iTunes app to delete the app, then you can download a new copy and install it. iPhone now backing up for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite.

Same boat here.  None of the suggested solutions work.  My device is now basically useless.

    Would LOVE to see Apple

    (1) Make it easy to download/upload stuff without having to use iTunes (3rd party apps can help, but if I wanted to go that route I would have bought an Android);

    (2) Make it easier to just download/upload individual files - syncing really does nothing for me (I have about 200 gb of music so I can't sync my entire collection!) and it would be nice to have an old-fashioned folder to move songs, pictures, etc. manually from the device to the computer without going through all the silly syncing business.

Thanks. That worked. Un install all itunes related stuff like tunes, apple mobile device and apple application support (Had 2, 32 and 64 Bit), download the latest iTunes from Apple's site and install and voila!
