After having installed Yosemite 10.10, my computer stalls permanently during startup. Safeboot solves the problem. Idea’s about how to discover what is causing the hang during startup?
Try booting in verbose mode ( command+V), the last message displayed could be a hint as to what the machine is trying to do before freezing
Hmmmmm. It is a government computer and there seems to be something blocking the verbose mode (pressing the command+V) doesn’t do anything. But thanks for that…other ideas?
Let me clarify, it gave me the listing of what it was doing early in the boot process but then showed the progress bar only and no more verbose listings. Also they were rather small and fast when they did happen…not sure it would have helped much! 😉
Same issue here. Verbose mode shows hang in different place each boot.
Funny, because I have 5 macs and this one is the only one with this problem. Wish I knew what was causing it.
Unistall the antivirus (in case there is one).
Disable all login items
Restart
"Disable all login items”…is there s simple way to do this?
System Preferences/Users & Groups - unlock the pad lock, go to log in items and delete them using the - key. Or you can try deleting them one at a time to see if you can determine which one is causing the problem.
Well, turned off all and still not going...
Go to the finder
type shift+command+G
this will bring a dialog box titled "go to folder"
type /Library/StartupItems
What's in that folder?
The folders:
cma
FTDIReEnumerate
HP IO
PKard
I liked what xdabit said. hold shift key during boot, and go to safe mode to del. all login items. THIS WORKED FOR ME AFTER ODD THING IN SAFE MODE: the computer asked for my login PW, then finished the install of maverik in safe mode. I went ahead and deleted the login items also, and have now booted in Twice!!
removed them but still not finishing startup...
FTDIReEnumerate is a USB to serial driver as far as I can tell. Is this mac connected to a serial device
PKard is a client for secure home and remote web access.
HP IO seems to be related to some Hewlett-Packard printer

You mention that the other 4 macs don't have that problem. Are they the same model and year than the troublesome one?
Could you compare the contents of this folder against one the other machines?
I will once at work. But removing them all solved nothing.
