Q: iTunes 12.0.1 cannot detect iPhone iOS 8.0.2

As if continuing the series of unfortunate events, after updating from iOS 7.1.2 to 8.0.2, and breaking my iPhone, I just updated my iTunes from v11 to v12 despite having bad feelings about it... and viola! it cannot find my iPhone now! Its connected to my PC through USB. It keeps throwing "Trust this PC" message, I keep accepting it, nothing happens, I remove the USB and reconnect, it throws the same error. I tried deleting the lockdown folder as suggested in this article but in vain.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.0.2, iTunes v12.0.1
