Q: Yosemite made my MacBook Pro so slow. Need help.

I Upgraded my MBP (2012), from Mavericks to Yosemite and it slowed my computer down to the point where it became unusable.  I repaired the permissions, and even reinstalled Yosemite but it didn't help.  My MBP is crawling and I'm hoping someone can walk me through a solution.  Need help.

It's never a smart idea to post a "me too" to an existing discussion as only the people here will ever see it.  Starting a new discussion with a detailed explanation of what you mean by "everything is slow the pinwheel is everywhere".

you have accidentally installed Spigot adware.  See Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac.

For faster, more efficient identification and optional removal of all currently know adware, run AdwareMedic, available free from this Forum’s Malware Guru, owner of TheSafeMac blog and a colleague of mine.

To understand why this happened and how to avoid it in the future see John Galt’s How to install adware.

Never a good idea to post "Me Too" as very few people will ever notice it, so...

Despite what Apple says you can't run Yosemite along with a bunch of apps in 2GB RAM. Most users have found the 4GB is the bare minimum and 8GB is much more comfortable.

As the EtreCheck instructions say at the top:

Click the [Adware] links for help removing adware.

You have accidentally installed Genieo with Omnibus adware.

To understand why this happened and how to avoid such things in the future read John Galt's How to install adware.

If you still have issue after that, please start a new discussion topic.

    very simple:

As Madnacs says:  download AdwareMedic from   thesafemac.com   and remove the malware infections.

Then upgrade the Ram to the max.

And remove user files from the harddisk: keep say 30-50 free at least.

    Empty the trash.

After this your issues are gone.

Same issue here with my Mac-mini.

Check the reboot time with a stopwatch: 5 min 27 seconds

Compared to my Linux which takes only 25 seconds to reboot.... (this one has less memory & cpu but an SSD)

    such a drag.

Anyway will give it a try to install it from scratch Yosemite, if same issues will revert back to Maverick.

Just a pain to go through this and it is a waste of time which I could spend on developing apps....

Thanks apple for the great products you deliver.

You've got all kinds of issues, too many to address in this thread that's gone on way too long. Please start a new discussion and let us know where it is.

"Thanks apple for the great products you deliver".

Send that to Apple, we are not Apple, just users here.

You have all kinds of issues, but one is using hacked software. And incompatible software.

I also decided (stupidly) to upgrade to Yosemite.  And like everybody else in this post my MacPro is running slow, "thinking"a lot lately. Do this have a solution or should I go back to Mavericks.  If turning back is the best solution, I really don't mind.  Mavericks worked wonderfully.  I just upgrade because I thought it was the course of things.  My macbook was on the list of the computers that accepted the upgrade.

I run the program you guys recommended, and here is the result:

    Problem description:

I had Mavericks intalled and upgrade to Yosemite.  Now my MacBookPro is running solver than before.

You do not have any serious problems:

Upgrade the Ram, seeing the price of Ram, go to 2x4= 8GB.

Recently I've noticed several /private/tmp/tmpinstallmc.dmg files randomly show up on my desktop. This morning I had 2 show up.

I've also noticed that my internet has been running much slower after I upgraded to Yosemite, so I don't know if one has to do with the other. After reading several post I did the EtreCheck (see below). My question now is do I have to still run AdwareMedic to make sure ALL files have been removed from Geneio or am I good...for now.

    Thanks!

Yes you are infected. Download AdwareMedic latest version (2.2) and run it. The adware that si visible wil be removed.

Also empty the /private/tmp folder. Restart after that.

    Update Flashplayer.

If you want any more assistance, start a new thread and post the link here.
