Q: Yosemite made my MacBook Pro so slow. Need help.

I Upgraded my MBP (2012), from Mavericks to Yosemite and it slowed my computer down to the point where it became unusable.  I repaired the permissions, and even reinstalled Yosemite but it didn't help.  My MBP is crawling and I'm hoping someone can walk me through a solution.  Need help.

I'm not sure what you mean. The portion of Mr. etresoft's source code that extracts and reports information using OS X's system_profiler is easily examined by anyone with the motivation to do so.

Nothing else about the system report matters until Norppis_90 replaces that Mac's HDD. Since there is no evidence a TM backup exists, suggesting the need for one is also appropriate.

This was the first sentence to M Norppis:

John may be right. Backups are always necessary, do that.

I don't know. This thread is very confusing. I don't know what the other thread is. I am John, but so is John. If you have a specific question about EtreCheck, send me an e-mail. This thread is making me dizzy.

Yes you are both John. The other thread had the same note at the disk., after the unencrypting was ready the note was gone. We still checked the disk of course. You were there too, a few days ago.

I am already dizzy a bit longer, as you can see from the posts... .

Thank you for helping us out.

I'm an ASC Yogi. I live "in the moment" and have no memory of a few days ago.

The log files that EtreCheck reads are very similar. The disk errors go away, but that only means they aren't currently visible in the log files which get rotated on a regular basis. I have seen some funky things with disk errors on Yosemite, especially with external 2.5" drives. I can't say for certain that a drive that shows these errors has actually failed, but Yosemite is definitely having problems with it. Hard drives are so cheap and easy to replace that I don't mind tossing them at the first sign of failure. That being said, Yosemite makes me uncertain of many things.

You give a rather elaborate description of you John, and how it came about, on your website.

Yogi is new for me, but I will keep it in mind .

And yes, your point in failing diskreads is well taken !! I will not forget it, don't you worry.

I'm having issues with my macbook pro. I have Yosemite installed since a few months but, out of the blue, my laptop started being really slow yesterday. I can't get it fixed so I'm dropping my EtreCheck here :

    Problem description:

Macbook Pro starts to work very slow out of the blue. Lots of stuttering and spinning wheels.

You installed 3rd party antivirus software that is just going to scan for Windows viruses and slow down your machine. In addition, you have the Mac's built-in, useful security features turned off.

You haven't said a word about what issues you are having and you responded to a person asking you to "Can you boot into the Recovery volume and repair disk permissions and the disk with Disk Utility?" so I don't have any idea what you are asking for.

If you can't find the answer to your problem by reading all sixteen pages of this discussion, please start your own beginning with a detailed description of your issue(s) along with screen shots, if applicable. Don't post your EtreCheck output unless somebody asks as some of our troubleshooters don't want it and may prescribe different diagnostics. That way you will get a lot more help faster than hoping somebody is still monitoring this too-long discussion. I'm not trying to be critical, but that's just the way this forum works best.
