iMac not waking up from sleep after Yosemite upgrade

I too have had this issue since upgrading to Yosemite. I tried a number of measures, nothing helped over the long term. Finally I disconnected my external thunderbolt HD (which had never caused a problem before Yosemite). Since then, around four wake-ups ago, I've had no further problems. I would suggest that it is worth a try. GL

I was also having the same issues. I tried everything that was suggested and to no avail. I did however turn the bluetooth off on the top right of my screen and so far it has worked. I hope it works for other people as well. 🙂

Well I am sad to report that did not work either. I guess I will just have to shut of the sleep mode. 😠 Super frustrated!

kmlaw11 do you have a usb or thunderbolt drive or other peripheral connected? The problem has vanished for me since I disconnected my external thunderbolt drive (lacie). GL

No, I have a few external drives connected to my Imac. Do you need to disconnect the backup external drive? I just bought this and when I did a update it started not waking up. It is very frustrating.

Just try disconnecting all your peripherals (external drives, anything not part of the computer itself. See if that solves the issue. GL

Yep. Only happens when the drive is connected. When I have no drive connected, it wakes from sleep fine. With it connected, fails to wake any time its been asleep for too long.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the "put disks to sleep whenever possible" setting in power saving settings...

This is still happening with 10.10.3 (14D136) - with graphics supplemental update applied.

I have installed Jettison and my problem seems to be resolved. Jettison ejects all your external drives before the Mac going to sleep and remounts them after wakeup. I need to test deeply but I think that my problem with black screen after wakeup have been resolved.

You can try Jettison for 15 days, that way you can test if this App resolves your problems.

I had the problem but found in the energy saver, enabling "wake for network access" and now when I put it to sleep and wake it up, it wakes up :-)

I tried your Safe Mode suggestion and it worked fine.

After updating the Adobe's flash player recently, the wake up issues returned. Then I restarted on Safe Mode again and everything is normal now on my iMac late 2013 with Yosemite 10.10.3.

10.10.3 — iMac (12,2) which has an external Lacie TB drive connected that works as startup-disk.

So disconnecting the TB disk is no option…

I'm also connected with AFP to my server (MacMini with Mavericks)

The issue happens randomly — sometimes it wakes, sometimes it doesn't.

Connecting from another mac with screensharing doesn't work either (although the iMac can be mounted as a network share)

Energy preferences: Wake from network: enabled & Harddrive sleep disabled.

I'll try disconnecting my server (Console gives me errors on connecting to the MacMini server)

I put up with this issue as long as I could, and then ultimately was forced to reimage my machine, reinstalling the operating system and restoring my files from a backup. So far the issue has not recurred and everything has been running smoothly for several weeks.

Just wanted to add my voice to this 7 page, 8 month+ 3 year+ problem that Apple has yet to fix through an update.

I'd encourage others to add their issue here as well and thanks to those that have been experiementing on solutions.

Did some digging and this problem has been around for a while and seems to occur after an OS update. There are threads here about the exact same issue happening to people updating to Maverick and even Lion. Apple?
