Q: Can't approve family sharing request

I've set up ios8 iCloud Family Sharing, with my Apple ID as the family organizer account and a newly created iCloud account for my daughter. I can see her phone on my Find My Phone, and she was able to request an APP that I approved via an "ask to buy" notification on my phone.  All of that worked fine.

Now she's tried to purchase a song on iTunes, and was able to send another "ask to buy" notification that I received. I see the notification on my notifications screen.  When I tap on the request on the notifications screen, however, nothing happens. The notification background color gets lighter  for a split second, the font on the upper status bar changes from white to black, but nothing happens.

I cannot find another way to approve her request. If I go to her phone and try to purchase the song again, it only gives her the option to ask my permission -- no choice to have me approve it in person, which I thought was supposed to be an option.

Am I missing something obvious, or is this a bug?

I'm using an iPhone 6 running iOS 8.0.2. She's on an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.0.2

Thanks!

Mark

I too have the same problem.  My daughter successfully submits an approval request from her iTouch 8.02 or logged into ITunes with her apple id and I receive the request on my iPhone 4S 8.02.  Up until a few days ago, I was able to approve her request on my phone.  Now when I click on the approval request, nothing happens.  The font on my phone's top status bar changes from white to black and my iPhone stops responding to all screen touches.  I need to press the Home button for my phone to respond to my input again.  Very frustrated with Family Share!!!

I hope there is a fix for this soon!

You've perfectly described what happens on my phone and iPad when my daughter makes a request. I'll add to this question, if I may, that I can also find her request to purchase notification in my notifications on my iMac running Yosemite. When I click that request, nothing at all happens either. I simply can't approve (or deny) her request on any of my devices.

An update: I visited the Genius Bar yesterday, and the rep I worked with confirmed that this problem appears to be an iOS bug. Options are to turn off "ask to buy" (which would allow my daughter to make purchases with her Apple ID) or revert to logging in to the App/iTunes stores with my Apple ID on her phone (which would require my password to make purchases on her phone).

Hopefully, they will fix this bug soon! Will be a great feature, once it...works.

Same problem here, except that it was working fine as recently as last night.  Was there a new update that broke it?

edit: I see there's a 8.1.1 update available.  Maybe that will fix it.

    Bump.

Same issue here here on both updated iOS and Mac Yosemite.

    Once worked, now not working.

This exact problem is happening to me now. I've got my three children on family sharing, approval was working fine and now suddenly won't. I get exactly the same problem as you guys are describing.

Noticed there was an iOS update, so have installed that but the problem remains. Has anyone hear or seen anything yet that might solve this very frustrating problem?

Another detail is that when I tap on a request, my entire phone is unresponsive for about 10 seconds.    I did the update and it's the same.

I also got the exact same behavior from my iPad, so I think the problem is on their end.  I hope they fix this soon.

As of 11/20, I've now updated both Yosemite and iOS 8 with latest.

    No change.

    Problems persist.

Holy Cow!  Apple gets everyone excited to setup Family Sharing, we start using it....it breaks and its still not fixed after a few weeks?  iOS 8 and later updates have been a major disappointment, and this coming from a guy who has 13 iOS devices in the family.  Starting to lose faith in Apple to provide the device that "just works".

Exactly the same behavior for me too. My son is trying to make an in-app purchase but can't. I turned off the 'Ask to Buy' toggle just to see what would happen and asked my son to try it again. He can't because it says, 'Please wait. Transaction pending'

Having the same issue here also. Family Share has never really worked right, not for primetime yet. Sharing purchases works fine, but "Ask to Buy" does not. It did work for a while but some time last week went dead. I suspect it is linked to another issue that popped up last week, Re: itunes is currently unavailable.

It doesn't annoy me that this stuff happens, because it does. What does annoy me is that the issue is not resolved yet. Apple prides itself on things that "just works" and that does not seem to be the case lately.

Same issue. Suddenly stopped working a few days ago. Anyone get an indication when it'll be fixed?
