Q: Can't approve family sharing request

I've set up ios8 iCloud Family Sharing, with my Apple ID as the family organizer account and a newly created iCloud account for my daughter. I can see her phone on my Find My Phone, and she was able to request an APP that I approved via an "ask to buy" notification on my phone.  All of that worked fine.

Now she's tried to purchase a song on iTunes, and was able to send another "ask to buy" notification that I received. I see the notification on my notifications screen.  When I tap on the request on the notifications screen, however, nothing happens. The notification background color gets lighter  for a split second, the font on the upper status bar changes from white to black, but nothing happens.

I cannot find another way to approve her request. If I go to her phone and try to purchase the song again, it only gives her the option to ask my permission -- no choice to have me approve it in person, which I thought was supposed to be an option.

Am I missing something obvious, or is this a bug?

I'm using an iPhone 6 running iOS 8.0.2. She's on an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.0.2

Thanks!

Mark

I suspect this is a bug introduced in the 8.1.1 update. Everything was working for me before the update, now, like everyone else, I cannot approve purchase requests from family.

BTW - has anyone figure out how to get these same requests to show up in the MacOS notifications area? I have all the settings set correctly, I think, but they never show up on my laptop. I was hoping this might give me a way around the iOS problem.

Bump.  Having problems too.  I think it worked one time, then changed to this behavior.  I can authorize App purchases, but not in-app purchases.

I've been able to resolve the issues I was having EXCEPT for being able to approve IN-APP purchases. I removed my kids from Family Sharing and then added them back. I have Ask to Buy turned on and it's working (again, except for the in-app purchases).

Same issue.  In addition, my son has a credit balance on his iTunes account, but I'm still being asked to approve spending my cash on an in-app purchase.

This issue has resolved for me with updating all devices to 8.1.2.  In-App purchase request works now.  For me.

This was plaguing me as well.  But I found a solution that is working for me thus far.  All of our devices have the latest iOS btw - 8.1.2.  I have to do the swipe down from the top gesture on the screen and then choose the notifications button.  The request is on that list and I can respond to it there.  HTH

SI do you know if this has anything to do with running different versions of iOS.  This is really frustrating now because I have to purchase all apps under my account, and delete the Apps just to give my kids the apps they are requesting.  I'm running 8.1.3 on my phone, but they are still on 8.1.1.

August 2016 - This issue is still happening for me. I have been on the phone several times with Apple and tried a few things to no avail. The weird thing is that it is inconsistent, I managed to successfully approve one app a few days ago, but now cannot approve any more.

All of our devices (my kids and I) are updated to latest iOS 9.3.3

I will continue to pursue Apple support and post here with any news.

I found that logging into MacOS will allow some of the requests to be displayed and approved. But the alerts on iPad and iPhone hang on a blank screen still.
