I will say that this has been a problem with this printer on OSX for a LONG time. The old fix was to remove all of the "HP" extensions from the Extension folder (throw them away and then reboot). This absolutely worked through Snow Leopard. I just recently bought a new iMac and am now on Yosemite and Apple has seen fit to move or change how it uses those files there is nothing to throw away anymore. The failure mode is identical so I'm sure it is the same sort of hang. I wonder if removing the 2550 driver would do it.
