When recording a slideshow, why does audio stop recording after about 30 seconds even though slides and presentation continues?

Same problem. Is there a way to downgrade? I need a resolution FAST!

The following repaired this problem for me:

1) Deleted Keynote using Appcleaner

2) Shutdown computer and waited 30 seconds

3) Powered up in safe mode (hold shift key on tone and release on progress bar).

4) Repaired disk permissions (applications\utilities\disk utility)

5) Restarted OS

6) Reinstalled Keynote.

Sorry, the resolution I posted ended up not working. I've found that the recording works fine until you save the file, then the audio gets clipped at about 30 seconds.

There is a bug in Keynote's new single file format in 6.5. If you change the file to the old file format, the audio won't cut off after 30 seconds (the previously recorded audio is all still there, you won't have lost anything!). To do so, click on File > Advanced > Change File Type > Package.

This is absolutely shocking that Apple have let this happen. I've recorded the same presentation four times and each time it failed, wasting three hours of my weekend. Apple should never have let this update out of the box; they should be embarrassed.

I understand your point. But, at the very least do recognize that you haven't actually lost the audio. If you have any of your previous recordings, then just change the file type and the audio will be there.

Huge thanks for this. Although I've just tried it, and when I go to 'advanced' the 'change file type' option is greyed out and I can't click on it!

Easy solution: copy Keynote 6.2.2. from girlfriend's computer, delete 6.5 from mine, paste.

I can't imagine this will work as the the application is tied into a specific computer and user ID to prevent unauthorised use of single use applications. Copying over has not worked with previous versions of Keynote.

It worked for me. I guess it could be because we bought our Macs together and have home sharing or something. Either way, I'm running Yosemite but with Keynote 6.2.2. and not updating again until Apple do something about this bug.

Home sharing will allow that.

You can try a reset of Keynote by deleting from the Applications folder, empty trash and re-install from Mac App Store.

So after you changed the file type to package, you just exported as a quicktime file again and it held all the sound components?

Yes. With the file type of Single File, the audio cut off (within Keynote as well as within exported QuickTimes) at 30 seconds. Changing the file type ON THE SAME KEYNOTE FILE to Package resulted in the audio playing fully. The audio component is obviously still contained within the file, but it simply doesn't get played with the file type set to Single File.
