Aperture unable to update to 3.6 after install Yosemite
After a clean Yosemite install, Aperture doesn't launch. Unable to update to 3.6 because App Update can't read Aperture when it is disable.

How did you get Aperture initially? If via the App Store, just delete it (easiest is using LaunchPad) and then re-install from the App Store.
I've purchased Aperture 3 with disc, not from App store. Because the version is 3.4.5, Yosemite doesn't launch the application, so I am unable to update it to 3.6 to have it compatible with Yosemite.
I have never tried this on Yosemite, but I did link my disc version of Aperture to my App Store account. Just install Aperture on your Mountain Lion, enter the license code, and launch App Store. Then App Store will link your Aperture to your App Store account. Each Mac serial number is entitled to do this with 1 copy of Aperture, iWorks, and iLife so that your disc version apps will turn into App Store version apps.
It would have been easy, if you upgraded Aperture to version 3.5.1, while running Mavericks. The 3.5.1 update did convert the Apple store licence to an AppStore licence. You missed that window of opportunity unfortunately.
You could try to restore your previous system and migrate Aperture to an AppStore version while running Mavericks. This is possible, if you have a full Time Machine backup of the previous system.
OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version
Why did you make a clean install? It is not generally necessary with MacOS X, only, if you are experiencing serious issues.
same issue here. I also upgraded to Yosemite. I'm going through apple support now. We need a better "solution" than downgrading to Mavericks just to get an aperture license signed into the app store. Moreover, this kind of information clearly needs to be made available to the users before an upgrade.

Others are even installing a virtual machine to be able to run Mavericks, see: Aperture update not possible after update to Yosemite
When you are talking to Apple Support, provide your Aperture serial number and ask for a redeem code to be able to download the current release.
thank you léonie for the tip - I will certainly do that. I did read the topic in which they use a virtual machine. It works, but is crazy at the same time. It should not be made that difficult for the professional users.
Thanks Macbrush! I didn't know it will link to my app account. This is the easiest way to fix the problem.
I also see this from another thread. But by going back and forth with virtual machine is just a pain. But you can refer to Macbrush's solution, it is the easiest and quickest turn around. Thanks.
Well... Apple's dropping Aperture development, so I doubt very much there will be any miraculous solution soon. In fact, if you made a small partition, and reinstall Mavericks for linking Aperture to your App Store account might just take you less than an hour. Much better then just wait for Apple for something that might never happen.
Thanks all for this discussion. I found myself in the same situ and as an amateur with family pictures was quite horrified... however playing around with some of your suggestions, I found that after reinstalling the Programme form the original DVD and still not being able to start it, on opening the App store, I was able to install the 3.6 version and open it... For me that was the quickest solution but I have to agree this was not well managed by Apple, intentionally or not. I am used to better from them but simply glad if I also manage to see the pictures again... currently upgrading the library which is correctly re-identified so looks promising.
