Yosemite Dock Restart Problem

Hi everyone! After Yosemite clean installation my iMac (Late 2013) works not bad, but when restarting, dock don't hides as usual just stuck in the middle.
Here is video with same problem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz10YTf4cRo

Is this a bug or something goes wrong when i installed the system?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Funny, I had this same problem. However, I ended up solving it (somehow). Then I got another problem. When I would restart/shut down from the Apple menu, I I would go to a black screen with just my mouse. I'd then have to hit the power button to shut down. I solved that problem messing around with my wallpaper. Seems my custom wallpaper was an issue, as it would load the default paper at login (blurry back), then switch to mine. Solved that, and now I can restart so fast, my dock doesn't even have time to move out, when I restart, I go to black screen, then I see a progress thingy, then it restarts. It's super fast. But I did change some speed in Terminal.

However, I just did a clean install for a friend who has the identical computer, and she is having the dock problem. Also, I'm getting Finder messages upon restart, stating it couldn't shut down windows, etc. Really strange. All the issues I've found seem to be involved with start up/shutdown.

On Monday I'm going to try and solve the problem for her, and if I get any results, I'll post back.

Also, I did a clean install from a Yosemite USB key.I have FileVault enabled, she doesn't. I may enable it for her and see if her problem persists.

Hi and thanks for reply. I don't uderstand what you done to solve this dock issue...Should I enable FileVault, cause mine turned off?

As for apps that running at background in startup I have: iStat Menus and Creative Cloud by Adobe (no 1Password installed).

I also went to Apple Store yesterday and test some Macs with restart/shutdown there, they all have same dock issue 🙂

It will be great to know the actual steps that helped you solving this issue.

George- That's the problem *I* don't really understand how I solved it, as I have about 4 separate login problems, and I'm basically throwing everything including the kitchen sink. Also, because I have FileVault and my friend doesn't, I can't compare 1:1 on our issues, but only that we have shared the same issues, I've fixed some, and my friend still has the dock issue.

Now, I may start a new thread about Startup / Shutdown issues, because all the bugs/issues I have involve that process. I don't know if any are interrelated or if they are just random, etc. But when I solve one by doing *something* another pops up.

If you went to the Apple store and saw that dock issue, that at least makes me think it's an OS issue that they know about. However, I did manage to solve my dock issue, but because I was trying for 2 hours I can't recall all the steps I did, or things I tried.

These issues may drive me nuts enough that next weekend I may do another clean install on my computer, and chart each step, then check after adjusting settings, etc. until I find the issue. I've spend hours already, but I'd rather spend a day with a fresh install and either give up or find a solution.

I'll post a link to any new thread I start in the forums I posted detailing all the issues I've had around startup / shutdown.

Thats very interesting when automatically hide and show Dock is checked the Restart/Shutdown woks excellent 🙂
But if i want just like it was on Mavericks: Dock is not hidden all the time but when restarting it hides completely and don't stuck in the middle?
And one more thing, when this feature is checked: i press restart from Apple menu the screen goes completely black immediately and Mac restarts very quickly! And when not check: same restart the screen became translucent black (I see my wallpaper faded with 50% black and Dock that stuck in the middle)
Very weird things, i think this is not our problems but Yosemite. Manager from AppleCare said that this bug will be fixed in 10.10.1 update.

Just to be clear that we have the same issue:

On my machine, if i select 'Restart' or 'Shut Down' from the Apple menu, it quits all of the running applications, as in a normal reboot, but then it simply stops.

The Dock is still accessible, but nothing else happens (i even tried to leave it for 3 hours, with no change)

In fact, i can launch Terminal (i have it in the Dock), then, in sudo mode, type reboot and it'll finally reboot..

Note: i've compared the Console log of the machine in question with one that is not exhibiting the problem, and i think i've found the culprit:

the application 'Install in Progress' seems to start as soon as i click 'Restart', but there are no updates to install...

I'm pretty sure that this is what is happening: for some reason, 'Install in Progress' seems to think that there are updates to run, and it just hangs there, and hangs the whole system with it...

I have tried clearing the caches (using the shareware Cocktail), to no avail..

If anyone can figure it out, please help! It is driving me nuts!!

PS: there are no other error messages in the logs, and i can find no log or preference file that is associated with the application 'Install in Progress' (itself located in /System/Library/CoreServices)

I got this totally wrong...

I just figured out what the problem was:
For some reason, the internal update system in TotalFinder (an amazingly great shareware app) had stopped working, and it left an installer and some files in a folder located at:
~/Library/Application Support/TotalFinder/

All i did was trash this folder (and reinstalled TotalFinder from a downloaded .dmg for good measure), and the system is now restarting and shutting down correctly again...

i can't believe i didn't thin of that before, but for some reason, i didn't think it was related to TotalFinder..
