WatchESPN continues to crash on AppleTV(3Gen)

For the last year or so, I've had problems with the WatchESPN App crashing on my Apple TV (3Gen), iPhone (5) and iPad (4). The error message "Unable to Play Video - video is having trouble loading please try again" on the iPhone or "An error occurred lading this content. Try Again later." on the Apple TV & iPad continue to plague my enjoyment of watching the App on Apple devices.

For the longest time, I thought it was related to my 5 year old Belkin router. Last week, I upgraded to a new Airport Extreme hoping the issue would be resolved but the problems ensued via the WiFi connection. I then moved the Apple TV to the other room and connected it directly to the router via Ethernet, only to receive the same error message within 5 minutes into the stream.

During the afformentioned test, I also launched the app on the iPad and interestingly enough, at the same exact time both this stream AND the Apple TV cut out with the error message.

Now, I've tested the App on the XBOX 360 and have not had any such problems, so I'm wondering if it's an Apple related bug. My internet package via TWC is up to 15mbps, but I don't think this is the issue since other streaming apps (Netflix, watch NBC) on these devices don't have the same issues.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, are there any possible solutions?

YES!! I have been having the same issue with all the live feed items on WatchESPN. I reset the ATV, my modem, re-entered all my info etc, and still can't watch any of the live shows on the WatchESPN app. I have emailed ESPN with the issue and received a generic response. Apple PLEASE fix this!! It is clearly an issue between ATV and the WatchESPN app. Its the same on my MacBook Air, my iPad Air, and iPhone 5s. It occurred after the WatchESPN app update last month.

Apple, PLEASE look into this!!!!

I have had my Apple TV for a few years now, I think we bough it in 2011 or 2012.

I have had no problems streaming Watch ESPN on my Apple TV.

Well, this past month, I CONSTANTLY get that "An Error Has Occurred ... Try Again.." message whenever I try to stream a football game. I have restarted my Apple TV, my router, I have even used an Ethernet cable!

And it only seems to be effecting my ESPN app ... all of the other apps are fine.

Please Advise!

Just got off the phone with ESPN. Call or email them and log a complaint about the issue. The ticket # is "Watch issues-2500". They are very nice and you actually speak to a real person! I have sent 3 emails now and referenced the live content errors. I explained I can watch all the recorded clips they have with no issues, it's the Live events like Monday Night Football, SportsCenter, College Game Day, etc.

Maybe if someone from Apple would look into this it would be great, and it would probably hold more weight then us complaining to get ESPN to do something about this. I can assure Apple and ESPN this is NOT an equipment issue. I have reset, restarted, unplugged, rebooted, hard wired, moved equipment, signed in, signed out, and followed every troubleshooting guide there is, and NOTHING has worked...

I received an email stating the issue had been fixed. The ticket # was Watch issues-2500. The email address I used is support@espncustomercare.com.

I noticed yesterday morning the WatchESPN App on my Apple TV looked different. I was able to have SportCenter on for a couple hours without interruption. Do an update on your ATV, and an restart and hopefully with allllllll my complaining they have fixed the issue. The real test will be when I watch Monday Night Football. Cross your fingers!!

I continue to have apparent same problem. Any live WatchESPN feed will last for about 10-15 mins then I get the error message saying it cannot load the content. ATV software is up to date (6.2.1), and this is only having an issue with the WatchESPN app and nothing else (can stream Netflix with no problem). Not sure if anyone else continues to have this issue. I plan on reaching out to the ESPN support email address provided and let them know again. Fingers crossed...

Finally! A thread on this!

I have noticed that when watching ESPN streams (not ESPN2/3/SEC) I get the error every single time the live feed goes to commercial. I then have to back out of the app, and go back in, and it usually does not sign re-enter the stream until the game/event is out of commercial break. However, the key is that I MUST leave the watchespn app and re-enter. It totally *****. If I don't, and then try to re-enter the stream without leaving the app, I get a "User not authorized" Which completely is out of left field.

The only good part about this is that I have avoided listening or seeing that godforsaken Toyota Prius commercial.

This error is making MNF unbearable.

Interesting. My issue is with any live feed, on any of the channels, and not at the commercials only. I get out of the app entirely and get back in, and it still gives me the error right away, as if there is only a certain amount of time allowed to watch! I get about 10 to 15 minutes and then nothing for hours. Driving me crazy! Seems to have started a few weeks ago...

I also have this problem. Have to exit the program I'm watching and go back in to get the app to restart. This is only a fairly recent problem (last 2/3 months or so). Prior to that, I've had absolutely no issues streaming. And it's not my internet connection. Whenever the freezing gets too much, I switch to another streaming device with watchespn and that has absolutely no problems. This problem occurs both on wired and wireless connection.

Same problem here. Sometimes I wonder if it's simply a capacity issue with ESPN's streaming servers. Friday night I watched the entire Va/Va Tech game with zero issues. But trying to watch Fl/Fl State right now... forget it! Maybe they just can't handle the number of people trying to stream it? Dunno...

I don't think that's it. I switch to a different streaming device and never have this issue. There's some kind of problem with the watchespn app for apple tv.

There is no simple, magic solution to this hot mess. Someone from up on top has SCREWED this system, and they need to fix it. This is a miserable situation. I thought that the challenges were based o the number of viewers, but when I tuned in to the Bears vs Jets game I was still experiencing problems, and we all know that no one cared to watch that game.

I have tried restarting Apple TV, signing out of ESPN and then signing back in, pausing to load stream, restarting my internet connection, changed the resolution of the Apple TV (1080 to 720 to auto), and several other potential solutions to no avail. I cannot think of a single solution from the user that can work.

As for now MNF on Apple TV is a waste of your time.
