Which firmware is the later one?

I have

Model Name: Mac mini

Model Identifier: Macmini3,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2,26 GHz

Number of Processors: 1

Total Number of Cores: 2

L2 Cache: 3 MB

Memory: 4 GB

Bus Speed: 1,07 GHz

Boot ROM Version: MM31.00AD.B00

SMC Version (system): 1.35f1

Just installed Yosemite. It runs but I was looking for a possibility to up RAM to 8 GB according to http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/faq_core/mac-mini-intel-ram-upgra de-instructions.html

Read in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237 that I should have MM31.0081.B06 (EFI 1.2) if it is ”later”. Can someone help and tell if my firmware is the latest one or should I update it to MM31.0081.B06 (EFI 1.2)?

Thanks,

Matti

Thanks for a prompt reply!

I tried to download. Got a response "Alert! This computer does not need an update". On the site before downloading it stated "This update improves compatibility with the latest Apple memory kits on Mac mini computers.". Thus, I presume I should update it only if I want to up the RAM from current Apple recommended 4GB to 8GB that OWG and some others claim is doable. OWG (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/mac-mini/) says that this is doable if the firmware is updated. So actually I am pondering if it is worth paying $99.79 to do this (i.e. is it safe, and do I gain much). See http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/8566DDR3S8GP/.

Are you sure you have a early 2009 Mini?

Only the early 2009 Mini required an update for 8 GB of memory.

The early 2009 Mini baseline was a 2.0 GHz CPU with an optional 2.6 GHz (P8400) CPU.

The base late 2009 was a 2.26 GHz (P7550) CPU.

The early 2009 has base 256 MB of video memory with optional 256.

The late 2009 has only 256 MB of video memory

Which firmware is the later one?
