iPad Air (with Otterbox Defender) Doesn't Work With Stylus

I picked up an iPad Air last week along with an Otterbox Defender case (and screen protector). Yesterday I bought a Bamboo (brand) stylus suggested by the Verizon Wireless folks - and it doesn't work.

Online forums seem to go the full spectrum from "yeah it won't work - cut out the screen protector" to "yeah they all work".

Does anyone have a brand/model that 100% works without issue with the setup I have?

Try this found it on Amazon only drawback is the need to replace the tip.

can't just it with another device iphone, ipad, ipod touch from friend or relative to see if it works fine without the protector ?
