GPS Location Error

When using my local weather app, I get the error "unable to find location due to GPS location error" and it defaults me to the nearest large city which is 60 miles northwest of me so weather is slightly different than my location. I have 2 iPads, a 4th gen and an iPad mini retina and sometimes the error appears on both but sometimes one works correctly and not the other. Then the correct one gives me the same error msg days later and they both do at that point. I have deleted and reinstalled the weather app many times and checked and all the correct settings for location services are correct on both iPads. But I don't know if this is an app problem or my iPad problem and could it be fixed. Does anyone have any advice?

I would go on the assumption that it's a developer problem and contact them about it. But, if you wanted to see if it was a "device problem" ... you could also go to the Apple Store and have them do a hardware check to see if there is some kind of failure. I doubt it, but I'm sure the issue will come up with the developer, so it would be good to say that you already had it checked ... :-) ...

And here I go again ... :-) ... another thing.

I'm assuming you have the GSP unit for your iPads, so my answer was based on that, but even so, I've noticed that some "location services" for some websites locate according to an IP number and then use a database for the location of that IP number. For those who do that, I've been "off" by one state on my IP number (and when they didn't use the GPS on my unit).

If you don't have a GPS unit, then there is some "location" to be given based on WiFi information, which is less precise, and so if that's what your unit is doing, then it could be off by that many miles and that information can "shift" from one time to the next time.

Okay, I think that's all I can come up with!
