Nothing that anyone suggested above worked for me for some odd reason!

Tried activating and re-activiating iMessage wvereyhere, elected the email addresses, phone numbers etc. everything that was suggested din all posts in this thread...

    What did work for me:

Reseting the Network settings in the iPhone!

Instantly asked me for the code post that!

    Hope this helps someone.

My wife's iphone 6 and her ipad 2  had the same problem. No code on the ipad. Had everything checked as "you can be reached by" in messages on both devices and nothing until I rebooted her ipad. As in hold the power button on top and front button down simultaneously until the apple logo appears. Once it powered up fully the code appeared right on the front.

Thanks. This also worked for me.

At first I only disabled and re-enabled my iMessage account in preferences of Messages, and re-selected the phone number of my iPhone. That was efficient, a code appeared on my Macbook, and since than it works!

FFirst you need the latest update on both devices.  All I did was go to settings on my iPhone.  There was a tab for text message forwarding.  I clicked the arrow on the right and turned on my iPad.  When I did so, my iPad popped up with a code number and my iPhone asked for that code.  I entered the code on my iPhone and the slider turned green.  Good luck

I had the same issue between Mac and iPhone - tried several things but this is the one which worked:

    - On the Mac - Open Message App

    - On the iPhone - Settings - Enabled "Text Message Forwarding" and select the device you like to forward messages to, in my case "My Mac"

    - On the Mac - No code displayed

    - On the iPhone - I pressed Allow without entering code.

    - On the Mac - Immediately Mac gave me a message that forwarding is cancelled

    - On the Mac - I pressed OK

    - On the Mac - Right after cancellation message, code appeared but this code was connected to first iPhone forwarding sync

    - On the Mac - Don't cancel this code or don't do anything with this message

    - On the iPhone - Try enabling forwarding again

    - On the Mac - Now cancel the first code then correct code will appear right away

    - On the iPhone - Enter the latest code displayed on Mac on the iPhone

    - On the iPhone - Allow

Done - Enjoy your connected synch life

Hope this helps, you might have to play with allow and cancel on the iPhone and Mac few times for the correct code but this will work. It is definitely a bug but I managed to fix it with the above solution. Hope Apple works this out soon.

I just had the same problem but I fixed it by going into the settings on iMessage on my computer.  Make sure you enable your phone.

    Hope this is helpful.

I had a problem with code not showing up on my Macbook also. Tried solution here but did not work. Then I realized that I have alternative @icloud.com address associated with iMessage on Mac but on my iPhone I used my primary e-mail address. So I changed my iMessage ID from @icloud.com email to primary on Mac and everything works like a charmed.

My iMessages on my MacBookPro worked brilliantly with my iPhone 4S, but when I had to update a iPhone 6 the access code just wouldn't appear. None of the solutions mentioned here worked for me but I read in another forum that by signing out of iCloud on both devices (which is a bit scary) and signing back in might help. That worked for me - 3 hours of frustration !!

This worked for me. Originally, I only had my iCloud email showing in the Messaging app on my Mac.

When I signed out of iMessage on my phone (not just turn off iMessage, but actually sign out) and then signed back in, my phone number appeared in the Messaging app on my Mac along with my iCloud email address. At that point, when I tried Text Message Forwarding, I finally got the code on my Mac.

    Thanks!

    Hi everyone

I had this exasperating problem as well and was able to resolve it:

    1) As has been previously mentioned - on all devices, make sure your cell # (the one SMS messages are going to and from) is active.

    2) On your devices other than your iPhone - where it says "start new conversations from" make sure the option that is checked is your email address used to log into your Apple ID / iMessage / etc account.

So for example, under the list "I can be reached at", I personally have 3 email addresses plus the phone number of my iPhone.

Then further down, it will give you an option to "start conversations from" one of the addresses / phone numbers on this list. Make sure the one you pick is the one you use for your Apple ID, etc login.

As soon as I did that the code popped up on both my Mac and my iPad and everything works perfectly.

I had the same problem and there are a number of frustrating threads on that topic on the support site.  Today I spent over 2 hours on the phone with Apple Support.  The first agent didn't even understand the process for enabling SMS messaging, so he had me walk through many foolish things to try to get it working.  He could not, so he wanted me to do a factory reset on the phone.  I refused to do this.  The phone was brand new yesterday and there is no way I am wiping the phone because he wanted to take a shortcut with troubleshooting.  So I asked to be escalated.  The Level 2 support person did not even know that SMS forwarding was supported in iOS 8 + Yosemite.  He thought only iMessages would work.  It is very concerning that a Level 2 person isn't even aware of basic functionality.  So he then walked me through all the same things that others have tried on the forum, including rebooting the phone and the laptop.  We also signed in and out of Messages on both the phone and laptop numerous times.  Finally we signed out of everything including iCloud on both phone and laptop.  When we signed back in to iCloud (in both places), Messages (in both places), and Facetime (in both places) I was able to turn on SMS forwarding on the phone.  We were both shocked that it worked, and neither of us really understood which combination of signing in and out made the difference.  I recommend signing out of EVERYTHING on both devices (Messages, Facetime, and iCloud), then make sure you are signing in to all three of these on both devices with the exact same iCloud credentials and the exact same Apple ID credentials.  I was using the same credentials all along, but he stressed that this is a common problem.

Good luck.  I hope your experiences with Apple Support is better.  I came from Android after many years looking for a better support experience and an easier way to make things work together.  Kind of disappointed now.  So much for "It Just Works".
