    Hi,

Try the following:  Sign out of your AppleID from messaging account on both iPhone, Mac and iPad. Login again into your message app with your AppleID first on your Mac. Restart you devices.  On your devices goto settings>Messages> and login with your AppleID. (Do this first before you do anything else). Once login goto Text Message Forwarding> and you will see your MAC on the list.  Select it by sliding the slider to your right.  Hit the it will contact your mac and a pop up will appear on your phone to say that your mobile number will be used for messaging and in a few seconds a message will popup on your phone with an number to input.  You should be able to send text messages from Messages on your MAC. Do the same with the iPad.  Remember that all your devices MUST be on the same wi-fi network for this to work.

I had the same issue as well. My Mac, iPhone and iPad are on the same WiFi network. Bluetooth is not enabled on any of the devices. No generated code is shown on my Mac or iPad when turning on Settings -> Messages -> Text Message Forwarding on my iPhone.

I did notice that only my email address was shown in the Settings -> Message -> Send & Receive on my iPhone. Not my phone number. So, my question was; how do I register my phone number to Messages? After some long investigation I found the following this solution:

    On your iPhone:

1 - Turn OFF Messages via Settings -> Messages -> iMessage

2 - Open the Message app

3 - Send a regular SMS text message to your own phone number. Tip: Make it a text that makes you smile ;-)

4 - Turn ON Messages via Settings -> Messages -> iMessage

5 - Exit Settings and close all open apps, including Messages and Settings.

6 - Go back into Settings -> Message -> Send & Receive and verify that your phone number is added to the lists "You can be reached by iMessage at" and "Start new conversation from"

7 - Go to Settings -> Messages -> Text Message Forwarding and enable the message forwarding.

Now you should receive a generated code on your Mac, iPad, etc and be able to enable Text Message Forwarding.

For you, my two cents. Hope this helps :-)

    Cheers, Dennis

But i does not work for me!  My phone number is already verified. The problem is that i CAN receive text messages on my iPad but it won't connect tot my MBP. So i does work on my iPad but does NOT work on my MBP with the same settings........... each time i try to connect tot my MBP the iMessages app on my macbook crashes (error).

To activate the noon number in iMessages I had to first sign off and sign on again in the iPhone in Settings/Messages/Send&Receive/Apple ID

Once I did that in the iMac I got a popup asking to activate that number.

Previously the imessage on my mac is only with my APPLE ID Email, and the imessage on my iPhone is with my tel number, there is an option when you activate your imessage on your iPhone that you can login with your Apple ID, after login it, I got a notification on my mac shows if my phone number can use iMessage and Facetime now, which means my Apple ID is now with my number. So you can see the preferences on your mac imessage  "you can be reached for message at" has your phone number there. And later it will notifies you to open the text forward function.

Perhaps others have the same situation at home I have. I do not have phone coverage in my home office in the cellar. That was the issue for me, as I brought my phone downstairs to activate the connection. Once I brought it back to the ground floor and let iMessage on iOS connect to my provider all went smoothly. It even works with my MacBookPro being on a different WiFi than my iPhone (two different routers), but routers on the same LAN.

I accidentally closed out the notification on my iPad giving me the code to enter in my iPhone to make this work. Is there a way I can get it to display the code for me again?

I finally got text forward to show up by cycling the iMessage... The issue now it will only recognize my iPad and not my iMac. The iMac is running Yosemite, so how do i get the iPhone to recognize the iMac?

No idea why this STILL is not working.  Restarted both, both are on the same Wifi, NO CODE pops up anywhere on mac so that I can enter this magic code apparently written in disappearing ink or something...Seriously freaking hating on Apple

I can not believe how many stupid steps and things to mess with just to get this to work right.  Took me 3 days to finally get it.  I seriously think Apple needs to improve their crappy level of service.  This is total BS and too many steps to mess with, it's just supposed to work, not all this crap of turn this on and off, have to have bluetooth on, have to be on same wifi, have to be same sex, have to both be wearing rings on the same finger, have to drive an electric car for this to work right, can only message other iphone users, yeah, I know we said you could message anybody with any phone but you know what, April fools in freaking October on this crappy update.  I hate apple and their BS.  Not to mention freaking Duckduckgo is a joke & I'm sure apple is behind it too.  Nothing but a freaking headache from all these stupid updates, and then having to install updates again and it took an hour.  I am so freaking Pi$$$$$ed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An hour on the phone with Apple for them to tell me my mid-2010 iMac does NOT support this feature. Nice...

I was able to get it working between my phone and iPad by logging in and out a few times of the iMessage account and then it just worked.
