Q: Messages fails to send in Yosemite- "not delivered"

I just upgraded to Yosemite. I can successfully sign into Messages with my Apple ID, but it will not send any messages to any recipient. All attempts result in "not delivered".  Anybody else have this problem?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

I am seeing the exact same problem. It appears to only be a problem with a machine running 10.10 as another machine running 10.9 is working just fine.

Check in Messages preferences that you have iCloud account activated and that username and password are correct.

Also, when communicating with a non-Apple device it says not delivered when it actually has been.  It is very frustrating and I am having exactly the same problem :-(

You then have to go to 'Settings', 'Messages', activate 'iMessage'.  Then click on 'Text Message Forwarding' and you will be sent a numerical code on you other device to enter on the iPhone to link them.  Having just wasted several hours on this, it seems that if you change your Apple ID password you have to go through this all again.  I hope this is helpful.  Happy New Year :-)

    Hi,

If you get alert type messages under the text you were trying to Send along with the red Exclamation mark then delete the Keychain item relating to iMessages.

Open the Keychain Access app in Applications/Utilities.

Have Login top Left and passwords lower left and find the IDS: yourAppleID-Auth Token item and delete it.

Restart Messages to make it recreate this token.

If that does not work on it's own also delete the other IDS:*** items dated "today" (or at the Messages start up time).

    Dear Ralph

Thanks for this, which I have done.  Clicking on 'Text Message Forwarding' on the iPhone [Messages settings] it asks me to enter 'a code shown on your Mac to allow iPhone text messages to also be sent and received on "name of computer'.  However, no number appears!  Can you advise, please.

    Cheers

    Simon

    Hi,

The Number should appear on the Mac.

In fact it will start up the Messages app if the app is not open.

I recently had to try it two or three time on the iPhone to trigger a response on the Mac.
